What is a maintenance associate?

A maintenance associate is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the equipment needed to run a business. The setting for this job and the duties vary depending on the type of company. In a retail store, you may need to fix lighting and electrical systems, undertake cleaning duties, and install shelving. In a production facility, you need the skills and qualifications to maintain specialized equipment. In this career, your previous experience and training help you decide what setting works best with your skills and knowledge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a maintenance associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Maintenance Associate, you need foundational knowledge in facility maintenance, basic repair techniques, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand and power tools, maintenance management systems, and safety protocols is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and reliability help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure equipment and facilities remain safe, functional, and efficient for daily operations.

  • Assist with equipment calibration, alignment, and optimization efforts.
  • Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Support troubleshooting and assist with general maintenance tasks as needed.

  • Experience: Prior industrial maintenance experience required, with a focus on preventive maintenance strongly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical troubleshooting. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and manuals. Ability to track and document maintenance activities using logs or other systems.
  • Work Style: Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and problem-solving mindset.
  • Physical Requirements: This role requires the ability to lift up to 55 pounds regularly, perform frequent bending and stooping, and stand or walk for extended periods, including shifts of 10+ hours. The position involves exposure to noise, warm temperatures, and industrial equipment, and requires the use of all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

Why You'll Love Working Here:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Company-paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid holidays and vacation
  • Referral bonus program
