Are you looking to start a career in maintenance? Red Deer Resort & Casino is hiring an entry-level Maintenance Shift Worker to join our team! If you're eager to take on general repair and maintenance tasks, we'd love to hear from you!


Summary

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Shift Worker is responsible for performing general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, drywall and etc. This position requires the position to be well organized, detail-oriented and possess superior communication and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete detailed repairs and general maintenance on numerous areas and equipment within the hotel.
  • Many of the duties may include but are not limited to, general maintenance and repair requiring basic: electrical, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, drywall, etc.
  • Guest interaction listening and finding solutions for any repair items required in guestrooms or main areas of the hotel.
  • General maintenance and reading of pool area and machinery.
  • Complete outstanding work orders provided by guests and associates.
  • Basic outside grounds duties, including but not limited to: Removal of snow plus sand/salt parking lots, walkways and entrances.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment, tools and machinery.
  • Perform mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Perform regular property inspections of units, common areas, building exteriors, landscape
  • Work alongside contractors as required.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Follows and implements all Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including a regular on-call shift.

Education, Qualification and Requirements

  • Minimum 1-year experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings.
  • Prior related experience in the field of maintenance is a must.
  • Must wear a hotel-issued uniform and proper shoes (Steel toe boots)
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is an asset.
  • Vocational training is considered an asset in carpentry, plumbing, electrical etc.
  • General experience using various hand tools is required.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing in English.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to create alternative solutions to problems.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Maintains peer relationships in the field to share issues and ideas.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
  • Able to deal with people diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Able to work with a team however, stay motivated individually when required.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with little supervision.
  • General First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Pool Certification and other Health & Safety training is an asset.
  • As a condition of employment, associates are to have a criminal record check prior to their first day of work.

Work Environment

  • This position can be physically demanding, requiring frequent standing and Walking.
  • Ability to tolerate exposures to heat, cold and water.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job, there may be stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching and crouching.
  • Must be able to physically climb ladders or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Must be willing to wear personal protective.

  • The hours of work for this position will vary depending on operational requirements but will include day, evening and late night, as well as weekends and holidays.
