What is MaintainX?

MaintainX is not a job title but rather a digital platform and mobile app designed for maintenance and operations management. It helps teams track work orders, manage preventive maintenance, and streamline communication in real time. Organizations use MaintainX to improve efficiency, ensure compliance, and maintain equipment more effectively. It is widely used in industries such as manufacturing, facilities management, and hospitality to centralize maintenance tasks and records.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a maintenance technician?

To thrive as a Maintenance Technician, you need strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and experience with equipment repair, often backed by a relevant technical certification or vocational training. Familiarity with maintenance management systems like MaintainX, diagnostic tools, and safety protocols is essential for daily operations. Attention to detail, effective communication, and reliability are critical soft skills that help ensure smooth teamwork and minimize downtime. These abilities are crucial for maintaining facility safety, operational efficiency, and rapid response to equipment issues.

How does a maintenance technician using MaintainX typically collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient operations?

Maintenance Technicians utilizing MaintainX often work closely with departments such as production, safety, and facilities to coordinate and prioritize work orders. By using the platform’s real-time communication and task tracking features, they can quickly respond to issues, update teams on progress, and minimize equipment downtime. This collaborative approach ensures that maintenance activities align with broader business goals and helps build strong interdepartmental relationships, which is essential for smooth operations.

What is the difference between Maintainx vs Maintenance Technician?

JOB SUMMARY
The Technical Maintenance Planner converts approved maintenance requests into safe, technically complete, resource-ready job plans. The position verifies work scope, prepares job packages, estimates labor and duration, coordinates parts, tools, contractors, permits, and equipment access, manages the planning backlog, and supports weekly and outage scheduling. Working across Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Reliability, EHS, Quality, Procurement, and Storeroom, the Planner maintains accurate JDE and MaintainX information and improves plans using technician feedback, equipment history, and reliability findings. The role supports increased wrench time, schedule compliance, PM/PdM execution, work quality, backlog health, and equipment reliability while reducing emergencies and unplanned work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Review and screen work requests for clarity, correct asset and location, duplication, priority, work type, and planning requirements.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to verify scope, equipment condition, access, operating constraints, downtime needs, safety requirements, and the appropriate repair method.
  • Develop standardized, step-by-step job plans containing labor, skills, crew size, duration, parts, materials, tools, contractors, permits, procedures, drawings, safety controls, cost information, and completion criteria.
  • Apply precision maintenance requirements, including alignment, balancing, torque, lubrication, cleanliness, calibration, measurement, and tolerances where applicable.
  • Identify, reserve, order, kit, and stage required parts and materials; coordinate special tools, rental equipment, contractors, and external services.
  • Maintain a prioritized, risk-based backlog with accurate status, constraints, ownership, aging, target dates, and next actions.
  • Confirm that work meets the ready-to-schedule standard for scope, safety, labor, parts, tools, access, downtime, completion criteria, and feedback requirements.
  • Build the proposed weekly schedule from fully planned work and load it against available labor by craft and skill, PM/PdM commitments, production windows, absences, and contractor availability.
  • Coordinate the weekly work-management cadence, including backlog screening, detailed planning, parts review, prioritization, schedule freeze, kitting, handoff, and daily blocker review.
  • Use JDE as the work-order, asset, costing, labor, material, and history system of record; use MaintainX for technician-ready procedures, checklists, photos, field information, and mobile execution according to site governance.
  • Review completed work orders for actual labor, parts used, completion notes, cause information, photos, follow-up needs, and lessons learned before closure.
  • Participate in RCA, RCM, PM optimization, bad-actor review, OEE improvement, defect elimination, equipment criticality, and other reliability initiatives.
  • Monitor and communicate planning coverage, schedule loading, schedule compliance, emergency work, PM compliance, ready backlog, backlog aging, parts readiness, rework, and closure quality.
  • Maintain clear role boundaries: the Planner prepares and coordinates work; the Maintenance Supervisor assigns technicians and controls daily execution.

KEY PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
  • Increase fully planned non-emergency work toward 80% or more.
  • Achieve and sustain weekly schedule compliance of 80% or better.
  • Maintain approximately two to four weeks of ready backlog by craft.
  • Improve PM/PdM on-time completion and reduce emergency and urgent work toward less than 20% of available maintenance labor.
  • Improve parts readiness, estimate accuracy, job-plan reuse, work-order feedback, and asset/BOM data quality.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Technical education, apprenticeship, or maintenance and reliability certification is preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive industrial or facilities maintenance experience is preferred. This includes planning, scheduling, reliability, supervision, or technical coordination.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, controls, PLCs, VFDs, hydraulics, pneumatics, refrigeration, boilers, utilities, processing equipment, and facility infrastructure. Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, P&IDs, OEM manuals, specifications, parts diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong CMMS/EAM and Microsoft Office skills. JDE and MaintainX experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance; precision maintenance; LOTO; permits; OSHA; and applicable environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication, organization, facilitation, analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, reliability, continuous improvement, and The Wine Group values.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to conduct field walkdowns and work in offices, shops, production, warehouse, utility, indoor, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, climb stairs, access equipment areas, wear required PPE, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies, subject to applicable accommodation.
  • Ability to provide occasional off-shift, weekend, shutdown, and emergency support.

COMPENSATION
  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $83,400- 125,000
  • Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, knowledge and abilities, education, and other position-related factors.
