Job description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician works closely with and under the direction of the Maintenance Director to ensure the community is safe, clean, comfortable, and well-maintained for our residents, families, and staff. This position assists with the daily maintenance and upkeep of the building, grounds, equipment, and resident areas while responding promptly to maintenance requests and helping maintain a safe environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Maintenance Director with the daily maintenance and upkeep of the community.
  • Complete routine repairs and maintenance throughout the building, resident rooms, common areas, offices, and grounds.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, HVAC, and general repairs as appropriate.
  • Perform routine inspections of the building, equipment, safety systems, and grounds and report any concerns to the Maintenance Director.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Help maintain clean, safe, and attractive grounds, including basic landscaping and outdoor upkeep.
  • Assist with preparing resident rooms for new admissions, including repairs, touch-ups, and general maintenance.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other items as needed.
  • Maintain maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment in an organized manner and notify the Maintenance Director when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Assist with emergency maintenance situations and respond appropriately to urgent repair needs.
  • Follow all community safety policies, procedures, and infection-control guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and report outstanding issues to the Maintenance Director.
  • Communicate professionally with residents, families, visitors, and staff while performing maintenance duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect residents' privacy and personal property.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Executive Director.
Qualifications
  • Previous maintenance, handyman, facilities, or related experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also taking direction from the Maintenance Director.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requests and respond to urgent situations.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and supplies as required.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Experience working in senior living, assisted living, healthcare, or a similar environment is a plus.
Working Relationship

The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Director and works collaboratively with the Executive Director, department leaders, caregivers, and other community staff to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for residents.

Overall Goal

To support the Maintenance Director in keeping the community safe, functional, clean, and well-maintained, while providing timely and courteous service to residents and staff.
