Job description

Job Summary:
The City of Philadelphia's Office of Innovation & Technology is seeking an ADABAS Natural Developer to maintain and operate various Natural/ADABAS systems supporting city departments, primarily the Finance department. The role involves programming, code modification, database maintenance, and developing documentation to enhance the functionality of existing applications.
Responsibilities:
• Maintenance and support of Natural/ADABAS mainframe applications.
• Maintenance and support for mainframe JCL, PROCEDURE, PARMETER and data objects.
• Apply enhancements to existing code base as needed.
• Apply acceptable testing and analysis procedures while implementing enhancements to existing applications.
• Follow recommended procedures for changes, documentation, and security.
• Support and maintenance of ADABAS database structures.
• Interface with internal and external customers and develop programming to support customer needs.
• Developing code from specifications for applications that retrieve and process data from external data providers.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Completion of a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, which has included major course work in Computer Science, information science, systems analysis, software engineering, or a closely related field.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Innovation & Technology and Human Resources.
• Knowledge of the applications and techniques of programming in Software AG Natural computer language.
• Knowledge of ADABAS database theory, techniques, and structures.
• Knowledge of PREDICT Data Dictionary functionality.
• Knowledge of the theory and practice of systems analysis and design.
• Knowledge of the IBM Job Control Language (JCL), IBM z/360 OS and ISPF interface.
• Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in systems and program flow chart preparation and documentation.
• Knowledge of VSAM file structures a plus.
• Strong understanding of the full software development process.
• Ability to understand technical specifications and translate them into application code.
• Ability to work with deadlines and changing priorities in a complex environment.
• Ability to work independently or within a team.
• Ability to communicate data processing concept to non-technical personnel.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with associates, departmental and administrative officials, supervisors, and other data processing personnel.
