BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P YW GENERATION PROJECT DEV Department of the P GENERATION PROJECT DEV Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 2 Management vacancies available. (Role: Professional)

JOB FUNCTION:

Support the technical and administrative evaluation of potential renewable energy projects. Assist the Generation Project Development Director/Manager and Project Developer II staff, as directed, with project analysis, screening, and selection activities. Support development of technical justifications for selected technologies and assist with preparation of Company responses to published Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for new power generation. Assist with preparation of the technical portion of regulatory submissions for assigned projects. Identify project and operational risks and support development of mitigation measures. Provide project coordination and technical support for engineering design, planning, budgeting, regulatory approvals, contractor coordination, and project implementation. Support achievement of project-related objectives through timely analysis, documentation, communication, and follow-up. Participates in LEAN continuous improvement best practices to enhance operational excellence with a safety mindset.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the technical evaluation of potential renewable energy projects. Provide technical and analytical assistance in the development of renewable energy projects, including site and resource assessments, coordination of interconnection assessments, and evaluation of operational constraints.
  • Assist in developing technical support materials for selected technologies and support preparation of Company responses to published Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for new power generation. Assist with preparation of the technical portion of regulatory submissions for assigned projects, including technical research, analysis, and support for proposed plant design optimization.
  • Identify and document operational risks of proposed technologies and support development of mitigation options. Potential risks may include fuel sourcing issues, environmental emissions considerations, equipment needs, and other technical or operational constraints.
  • Provide technical and project coordination support in the engineering design and planning of selected projects. Assist with contractor outreach, bid support, and coordination activities needed to support project design and construction.
  • Provide project coordination support to help meet project-related objectives. Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, tracking action items, preparing status updates, and supporting cost estimates associated with project development.
  • Attends training for, and participates in, Safety, Continuous Improvement (CI), Lean, and Incident Management Team (IMT) events as directed.  Participation in IMT events such as disaster response may require shift work, and unusual or stressful work situations and conditions.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of engineering fundamentals in power generation, including renewable technologies (e.g., physics, chemistry, thermodynamics, power systems, electronics, vector analysis, and materials), normally acquired through college-level coursework or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment design, the principles and practices of project engineering, project management and construction associated with electric utility facilities and systems normally acquired through extensive engineering experience.
  • Basic working knowledge of applicable federal, state, industry, and company regulations, codes, and practices, particularly those related to renewable energy development.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and mainframe systems and related software applications (e.g., spreadsheets, word-processing, project management, etc.).

  • B.S. degree in a relevant engineering discipline or related field; an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of a portion of the preferred experience.
