Location: Remote - EST
Duration: Initial 6 Month Contract with Extensions
Compensation: $64-72/HR
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the US
Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Mainframe Application Subject Matter Expert to support the enterprise onboarding of legacy mainframe applications into our Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform, Saviynt. This role addresses a critical knowledge gap created by the reassignment of a long-standing internal resource who previously owned access models across the mainframe application portfolio.
The successful candidate will operate from the application domain outward, ensuring that access, entitlements, and authorization logic are accurately understood, documented, and translated into IAM requirements that align with enterprise security, audit, and compliance standards.
This is a business critical role requiring deep legacy expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to engage across application, security, and IAM teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary application-side authority for mainframe access and authorization models across assigned legacy systems.
  • Analyze how access is designed, provisioned, enforced, and maintained within z/OS mainframe applications.
  • Document application access structures, roles, permissions, and RACF constructs in an enterprise-consumable format.
  • Translate application-level access models into clear onboarding requirements for Saviynt, including:
    • Roles and entitlements
    • Ownership and approval flows
    • Provisioning and deprovisioning logic
  • Partner with IAM, Cybersecurity, Audit, and Compliance teams to ensure accurate representation of applications in Saviynt.
  • Act as a liaison between legacy application teams and modern IAM implementation teams.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or risks in existing access approaches and recommend standardized improvements.
  • Support enterprise access governance initiatives, including audits, certifications, and risk remediation efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Mainframe Developer or Application Lead in a large enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of:
    • z/OS
    • RACF
    • Legacy mainframe application architectures
  • Deep understanding of how authorization and access are implemented within the application layer, not just via external IAM tools.
  • Experience working in complex, long-established environments with limited or outdated documentation.
  • Ability to independently reconstruct and define access models based on system behavior and institutional knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Identity & Access Management (IAM) concepts (e.g., roles, entitlements, approvals, certifications).
  • Exposure to Saviynt or similar IGA platforms (SailPoint, OIM, etc.) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting regulated enterprise environments (financial services, healthcare, government, etc.).
  • Strong documentation, requirements gathering, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and work effectively across matrixed teams.
Critical Success Factor
This role must begin with a deep understanding of how each mainframe application functions internally and then translate that reality into Saviynt onboarding requirements.
IAM concepts follow the application-not the reverse.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • A highly experienced, legacy savvy professional with "institutional knowledge" mindset.
  • Comfortable operating as a subject matter expert in complex enterprise environments.
  • Methodical, detail-oriented, and capable of operating independently with limited oversight.
  • Trusted advisor to application, security, and IAM teams.
