Overview

CTG is seeking to fill a Mainframe Application Developer - Modernization position for our client.

Location: Onsite 4 days per week in either New York, NY or Pittsburgh, PA
Duration: 6 months

Duties:

  • Develop, enhance, maintain, and modernize mainframe applications supporting critical business functions.

  • Analyze existing mainframe applications and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization, and improved performance.

  • Support application modernization initiatives, including language migration and integration with non-mainframe environments.

  • Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, CICS, and DB2.

  • Design and implement APIs and integration solutions connecting mainframe applications with distributed and cloud-based environments.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, architects, business stakeholders, and technology teams to define and implement modernization solutions.

  • Troubleshoot application issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement sustainable solutions.

  • Contribute to the adoption of modern technologies such as Java and/or Python alongside existing mainframe technologies.

  • Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and ongoing application support.

  • Ensure solutions meet organizational standards for quality, security, performance, and reliability.

Skills:

  • Strong mainframe application development skills.

  • Proficiency with COBOL, CICS, and DB2.

  • Experience with application modernization and transformation initiatives.

  • Knowledge of APIs and integration between mainframe and non-mainframe environments.

  • Experience with application optimization and performance improvement.

  • Exposure to or experience with Java and/or Python in conjunction with mainframe technologies.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with technical and business stakeholders.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of industry experience.

  • Extensive experience developing and supporting mainframe applications.

  • Demonstrated experience with CICS, COBOL, and DB2.

  • Experience participating in application modernization initiatives, including one or more of the following:

    • Language migration.

    • Mainframe integration with non-mainframe environments using APIs.

    • Application optimization.

    • Use of Java and/or Python with mainframe technologies.

  • Experience in the financial services and/or cash management industry strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in collaborative, enterprise technology environments.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
