Job Description:

This opportunity is for a Senior Mainframe Software Engineer focused on supporting and modernizing large-scale, mission-critical mainframe systems in a high-volume financial services environment. The role involves deep hands-on development and engineering work across COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, batch and online processing, enterprise scheduling tools, and DB2/SQL databases. Responsibilities include designing resilient application architectures, optimizing system performance, supporting end-to-end integrations, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring the reliability and scalability of brokerage and tax processing platforms. The position also emphasizes modernization efforts, including integrating legacy mainframe systems with distributed or cloud-based architectures.
The ideal candidate has strong experience leading complex technical initiatives in Agile environments, with the ability to mentor teams, drive engineering best practices, and collaborate across business and technology groups. The role requires expertise in production support, root cause analysis, technical documentation, and full project lifecycle execution for enterprise-scale systems. Candidates should have 8+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree (or 6+ years with a master’s degree) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Strong skills in Mainframe Development, COBOL, JCL, VSAM, Batch Processing, CICS, and DB2/SQL are required, while financial services industry experience is considered a plus.
