Job Title: Swiss Machinist

Job Description

Join a highly specialized precision machining shop as a Swiss Machinist on 2nd shift, running CNC Swiss machines to produce small, high‑accuracy components for aerospace and medical applications. You will perform regular setups, create or load programs, support other machinists with direction and technical guidance, and carry out inspection tasks in a clean, well‑organized environment equipped with modern machinery and vision systems.

Responsibilities

• Run CNC Swiss machines on 2nd shift with a primary focus on producing small, precision parts for aerospace and medical applications.
• Perform machine setups approximately once per night or every other night, with the flexibility to complete additional setups depending on production needs.
• Input preset programs into the machines or create new CNC programs from scratch to meet job specifications.
• Interpret and work from ITAR‑controlled drawings, ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements.
• Conduct in‑process and final inspections of machined parts using appropriate measuring tools and updated inspection equipment.
• Collaborate with a team of four machinists on 2nd shift, providing support with setups, programming, and direction as needed.
• Work toward becoming a lead machinist, with the potential to grow into a supervisory role over time.
• Operate other shop equipment such as CNC mills and lathes when needed, while maintaining Swiss machining as the primary focus.
• Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and CMM equipment (if experienced) to verify part quality.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop procedures to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Essential Skills

• At least 5+ years of experience running and setting up CNC Swiss machines.
• Hands‑on experience with CNC Swiss machining, including full setups and operation.
• Ability to create CNC programs from scratch or modify existing programs; familiarity with WinCNC software is beneficial but not required.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
• Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers for part inspection.
• Capability to perform inspection tasks and work with ITAR‑controlled drawings.
• Strong understanding of Swiss CNC machining processes and quality standards.
• Interest in growing into a lead role and eventually a supervisory position.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience running and setting up Swiss machines from manufacturers such as Nakamura, Citizen, or Tsugami.
• Experience with twin spindle, twin turret machines or similar platforms, including experience with Mori Seiki equipment.
• CMM experience for advanced dimensional inspection.
• Ability to operate CNC mills and lathes in addition to Swiss machines.
• Comfort working with updated inspection equipment and vision systems.
• Demonstrated ability to support and guide other machinists in setups and programming.

Work Environment

The role is based in a smaller, family‑oriented shop with newer CNC Swiss machines, mills, and lathes. The facility is somewhat compact but well organized, with a clean production floor and clearly arranged workstations. The shop is temperature‑controlled, providing a comfortable environment, and is not excessively loud, particularly on 2nd shift. You will work with updated inspection equipment and vision systems in a setting focused on precision aerospace and medical components, benefiting from modern technology and an efficient, structured workflow. The schedule operates on a 4‑day work week, supporting a balanced work‑life rhythm.

This is a Permanent position based out of Monticello, MN.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
