Job Title: Machinist

Location: Richmond, Virginia

Shift: 1st

Starting Compensation Range: $26.39 - $38.19 per hour

The Machinist is responsible for fabricating, re-engineering, repairing and assembling metal parts and components using conventional machines in a "job shop" environment; performing repairs to equipment and parts that are broken or damaged to allow economical salvage of the components; fabricating, machining, and assembling components. Operations include boring, facing, milling, tapping, burning, welding and cutting.

Requirements for the Machinist position include:

  • Strong mechanical and design abilities; must be able to apply knowledge of parts, components and equipment
  • Must be able to occasionally operate heavy machinery
  • Must be able to positively interact with supervisor and to understand problems and concerns relating to a repair
  • Must be able to work as an integral part of a team
  • Must be self-directed, organized and be able to work with limited supervision and provide guidance to less experienced machinists
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Must be able to handle high volume work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills for ordering parts and referencing orders
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Must have an excellent driving record

      Seeking Candidates with:

      • Minimum two years' experience machining on heavy equipment and components with portable machines and shop manual machines
      • Background in salvage related machining and experience operating manual machines; welding skills a plus
      • Certificate of technical training and/or knowledge in machining and welding
      • Machining and welding certifications, preferred
      • High school diploma or GED, required

      Physical Requirements:

      • Frequently sitting for extended periods of time
      • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
      • Routinely lift and/or move up to 70 pounds
      • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
