  • Define machine-vision system architecture and select appropriate cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, 3D sensors, computing hardware, and related equipment.
  • Perform optical calculations and determine appropriate field of view, resolution, working distance, depth of field, exposure, and lighting requirements.
  • Develop, optimize, and validate 2D and 3D machine-vision inspections using commercial vision platforms and/or image-processing libraries.
  • Develop inspection solutions involving image acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, measurement, pattern matching, segmentation, surface inspection, and defect detection.
  • Plan and perform laboratory feasibility studies using representative production samples and define the operating limitations of proposed inspection methods.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving optics, lighting, image processing, software, networking, electrical systems, mechanical conditions, timing, vibration, and automation interfaces.
  • Lead machine debugging, runoff, installation, commissioning, and production-launch activities related to machine vision.
  • Communicate directly with customers and internal project teams regarding inspection performance, technical risks, application limitations, required changes, and project status.
  • Travel to customer manufacturing facilities as required for testing, installation, debugging, runoff, commissioning, and production support.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent relevant professional experience.
