Job Description

The Automation Vision Engineer will be a key member of the Advanced Manufacturing team within the Amcor Flexibles North America (AFNA) division and will report directly to the Director of Flexibles Advanced Manufacturing. This role will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of Automated Vision Inspection Systems (AVIS) across Amcor's manufacturing facilities.
The position will focus on mapping Amcor's manufacturing processes and establishing standardized AVIS solutions, including calibration and validation procedures that ensure inspection requirements are consistently achieved. These vision-based inspection solutions will be fully integrated into Amcor's manufacturing systems and will play a critical role in ensuring product quality, improving process reliability, reducing defects, and enabling advanced automated inspection capabilities across the manufacturing network.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Aligns with and actively supports Amcor values by prioritizing safety in all activities and serving as a role model for safe project execution in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional project teams to design, develop, and implement end-to-end automated vision inspection system (AVIS) solutions across Amcor manufacturing processes.
  • Designs, programs, and optimizes industrial vision systems for inspection, measurement, robotic guidance, OCR/OCV, defect detection, and advanced 2D/3D image-processing applications.
  • Selects and specifies cameras, optics, lighting methodologies, filters, and image acquisition hardware to ensure robust and repeatable system performance.
  • Establishes AVIS architecture, data collection standards, database management, version control, change management, and backup strategies to support traceability, quality assurance, and long-term system reliability.
  • Defines standardized approaches for AVIS-to-robot-to-PLC communication, cell control, error handling, recovery strategies, and scalable automation integration.
  • Identifies and develops high-impact vision inspection opportunities that deliver operational and competitive advantages through technical scope development, integrated solution design, risk mitigation, and business case support.
  • Supports automation and vision system design reviews, risk assessments, FAT/SAT activities, calibration/validation processes, and onsite commissioning/startup support.
  • Provides comprehensive project management support including schedule coordination, budget tracking, stakeholder communication, status reporting, and proactive risk management.
  • Partners with engineering, operations, maintenance, and external suppliers to define system requirements, execute proof-of-concepts, support RFQ processes, lead implementation activities, and ensure long-term sustainability and maintainability of vision solutions across manufacturing facilities.

    WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU

  • A bachelors degree in engineering - Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years experience in packaging, food, pharmaceutical, or high-speed manufacturing environments.
  • 5+ years of experience/knowledge with industrial machine vision systems including Cognex (preferred) & Keyence product lines.
  • Cognex VisionPro Training/Certification, Keyence Vision system Training, Minitab Data Analytics Certification, FANUC Certified Vision Programmer, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • 30% travel requirement
