Job description

LAPORTE is seeking a Machine Safety Engineer with ideally 2 to 5 years of experience in analyzing and managing risks related to industrial equipment to join its Toronto-based team in Mississauga. Our engineer will play a key role in evaluating, designing, and implementing machine safety solutions that comply with industry standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct risk analyses of equipment and machinery in various industrial environments;
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on the results of risk analyses and the solutions to be implemented;
  • Develop recommendations to improve machine safety in accordance with applicable standards (CSA, ISO, OSHA, etc.);
  • Design, test, and implement machine safety systems (safety controllers and relays, guardrails, interlock systems, safety sensors, etc.);
  • Participate in system testing and commissioning;
  • Maintain and enhance machine safety standards;
  • Prepare specifications, drawings, and cost estimates;
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary project team;
  • Stay up to date on regulatory and technological developments related to machine safety;

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering field;
  • Member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ) as a Professional Engineer (an asset);
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in machine safety or industrial automation;
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards (CSA, ISO, OSHA);
  • Machine safety certification (CMSE or equivalent) as an asset
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and safety systems;
  • Ability to write detailed technical reports;
  • Occasional visits to clients in the Greater Montreal area, Brossard, or Quebec City;
