Job description

Davis Machine- Machine Shop Manager

Pay: $110,000- $150,000

Company Overview:

Davis Machine is a precision aerospace manufacturer serving commercial and military customers from our facility in Euless, Texas. Since 1952, we have built a reputation for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction by producing complex machined components and assemblies for some of the world's leading aerospace organizations.

At Davis Machine, our employees are the foundation of our success. We are committed to providing a safe, team-oriented workplace where employees are empowered to grow, contribute, and take pride in delivering exceptional products to our customers.

Position Summary:

The Machine Shop Manager is the first-level manager for the assigned production area and shift, with direct-report responsibility for production operators and Operations Lead(s). The Manager owns the daily production commit: planning, staffing, and executing the schedule so that safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) targets are met. The Manager is accountable for people management within the team including time-off (PTO) approvals, timekeeping, attendance, staffing and overtime decisions, performance management, and development in partnership with Human Resources.

The Machine Shop Manager reports to the Operations Manager and works cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Human Resources. The Manager directs the work of Operations Leads, who coordinate daily tasks and training on the floor, and is the escalation point for issues the Leads cannot resolve.

People Management (Direct Reports)

  • Directly supervise production operators and Lead(s); establish clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and conduct.
  • Manage staffing, PTO, attendance, timekeeping, overtime, and shift coverage to support production requirements and company policy.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching, corrective actions, and employee development activities in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training decisions for the team.
  • Develop and mentor Operations Leads; delegate floor-level coordination and training while retaining accountability.
  • Address employee concerns promptly, fairly, and confidentially; escalate employee relations matters to HR as appropriate.
  • Recognize performance and build engagement, morale, and retention within the team.

Daily Commit and Production Execution

  • Own the daily production commit for the assigned area/shift: translate the master schedule into daily/weekly plans, commit to output, and deliver against it.
  • Lead tier/standup meetings; review prior-day performance, safety and quality issues, staffing, and today's priorities with Leads and the team.
  • Monitor output, labor efficiency, and schedule adherence in real time; re-plan and re-deploy resources to recover misses.
  • Ensure equipment, tooling, materials, and work instructions are available to support the plan; escalate shortages.
  • Support resolution of machining, tooling, setup, and process issues to maintain schedule adherence and production efficiency.
  • Report shift performance, risks, and recovery plans to the Operations Manager; communicate status across shifts.
  • Safety and Compliance
  • Own safety performance for the team; ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company EHS policies, and PPE requirements.
  • Conduct safety observations, toolbox talks, and area audits; correct unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately.

Requirements

Required

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of machining experience, with aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated precision manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years CNC Programming experience
  • 3+ years of direct supervisory experience or demonstrated lead experience with readiness to assume full people-management responsibility.
  • 5+ years experience with complex CNC multi-axis machining.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, setups, and production workflow.
  • Experience reading and interpreting aerospace engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
  • Knowledge of machining castings, billet materials, and complex aerospace components.
  • Working knowledge of production scheduling, capacity, and labor planning.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and manufacturing safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MES systems.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with aerospace machining of aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, castings, and billet materials.
  • Experience leading Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) initiatives.
  • Experience in an AS9100-certified facility; familiarity with AS9102 first article inspection and NCR/MRB processes.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training or certification.
  • Experience supervising multi-shift or 24/524/7 operations.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Eight Paid Holidays
