We are seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to lead our Chicago-area maintenance operation. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing shop technicians, coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance, ensuring safety compliance, and helping maintain maximum fleet uptime.

Job Description

The Shop Foreman will oversee daily shop operations while assisting with diagnostics, repairs, scheduling, and technician leadership. This role serves as the bridge between maintenance staff, operations, and drivers to ensure equipment is maintained safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support shop technicians and maintenance personnel
  • Coordinate daily workflow, repairs, PM schedules, and shop priorities
  • Assist with diagnostics and major repairs on tractors and tanker trailers
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with DOT/FMCSA standards
  • Monitor shop productivity, quality, and repair timelines
  • Perform inspections and verify completed work
  • Assist with inventory control and parts ordering
  • Train and mentor technicians while promoting a strong safety culture
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair documentation
  • Communicate effectively with operations, drivers, and management
  • Help manage emergency breakdowns and after-hours maintenance needs when necessary
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop environment

Requirements

RequirementsQualifications
  • 5+ years of truck and trailer maintenance experience preferred
  • Previous leadership or foreman experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, tanker trailers, air brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and DOT compliance
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues
  • Experience scheduling preventative maintenance and coordinating shop workflow
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
  • CDL preferred but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Must possess own mechanic tools
