Job description

We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer for our client located in Montgomery, IL. This company is a well-established manufacturer of precision cast components. This position is responsible for developing and optimizing CNC programs for lathes and mills while supporting machining operations, process improvements, and new product development. The CNC Programmer works closely with the Tool Room/Machining Operations Manager, Machine Shop Supervisors, Engineering, and Production to ensure efficient manufacturing processes and high-quality parts.

This role requires a strong machining background, excellent programming skills, and the ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and support a wide variety of CNC machining operations.

Salary starting at $60,000/yr.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Read, interpret, and understand complex engineering drawings and blueprints to develop accurate machining programs.
  • Create, edit, and optimize G-code programs for CNC lathes and machining centers using Mastercam or similar CAM software.
  • Develop and maintain CNC programs, including macro programming when required.
  • Work closely with the Tool Room/Machining Operations Manager and Machine Shop Supervisors to prioritize programming schedules.
  • Support machining operations by troubleshooting programs and improving machining processes.
  • Optimize CNC programs, tooling, and machining methods to improve quality, efficiency, and cycle times.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to other CNC Programmers within the Machine Shop.
  • Collaborate with tooling suppliers and software vendors to evaluate new tooling and programming solutions.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of tooling, tooling concepts, and machining best practices.
  • Assist with machine scheduling and employee machine assignments when needed or in the absence of direct supervision.
  • Utilize software and reports, including scheduling spreadsheets, backlog reports, and production reports, to support production planning.
  • Assist with special projects including:
    • Training new CNC lathe operators
    • Evaluating new and trial tooling
    • CNC program and process optimization
    • Developing new machining processes
    • Supporting Engineering and Sales with machining estimates and new product quotations
  • Participate in safety meetings, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Attend supervisor meetings as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in CNC machining or manufacturing is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Proficiency programming CNC lathes and machining centers using Mastercam or similar CAM software.
  • Strong knowledge of G-code programming and macro programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and machining specifications.
  • Working knowledge of CNC lathes, manual machines, tooling, fixtures, and machining processes.
  • Experience optimizing machining processes for quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, engineering, supervision, and outside vendors.
  • Leadership experience or the ability to provide guidance and technical support to other programmers is preferred.
