Job description

Position Overview: Under departmental direction and as an entry level position, assists mechanics and other shop personnel in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of machinery and vehicles at Flory Line Construction. This position will assist with shop and tool cleanliness, organization, and other normal reoccurring activities to ensure that the shop functions as efficiently as possible; performs related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Performs preventative maintenance and major repairs on utility line construction equipment and vehicles.Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and low voltage electrical issues – shop/field.Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and parts inventories.Ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications, safety regulations, and company quality standards.Respond to emergency mechanical needs during storm restoration and critical outages.Test machinery after repair to ensure proper working order and make finishing adjustments.Understands that department needs can change quickly and maintains flexibility to complete work.Commitment to safe work practices in all conditions.May be required to travel to job sites as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent – required.1-2 years of experience working in an environment with heavy equipment – required.Valid driver's license - required.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:Knowledge:Some knowledge of heavy equipment repair practices, methods, techniques.Some knowledge of federal, state and local laws and administrative regulations plus policies and procedures related to this field.Knowledge of computer hardware and related software programs.Abilities:Ability to manage multiple priorities and pay attention to detail. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.Ability to maintain a safe working environment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and management.Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, and supervision. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Instructions: Instructions are specific; may use own judgment in some cases.Physical Requirements of the Job: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and will involve sitting, intermittent standing, walking, stooping; bending, climbing; reaching, gripping, grasping; must lift objects up to 50 pounds; will be exposed to machines and their moving parts as well as environmental elements. Tools, Equipment and Vehicles Used: Normal shop equipment, battery and other energized tools, hand tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts; normal office equipment, (computer, iPad, printer, telephone, camera, scanner, copy machine, etc.). Must operate vehicle/equipment as a requirement of the position as necessary.Contacts: Frequent internal contacts requiring tact and diplomacy.Interruptions: Frequent.Special Licensing Requirements: Driver's License.Availability: May be required to respond to calls in emergency situations at all hours.Overtime Provision: Nonexempt.
