Job Title: CNC Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on operating CNC machinery in a clean, modern machine shop environment. You will work with vertical mills and multiple CNC machines to produce precision metal components, ensuring all parts meet strict quality and dimensional requirements. The position requires strong industrial machine operating experience, the ability to read blueprints and drawings, and confidence working with close tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to understand machining requirements and specifications.
  • Start, monitor, and observe machine operations to ensure proper performance and adherence to production standards.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth of cut.
  • Perform process offset changes independently to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
  • Load parts using appropriate tools, including vice grips, and manage multiple machines at a time when required.
  • Operate vertical mills and CNC machines, including Haas and Brother equipment, following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring devices to inspect parts and verify dimensions.
  • Check and verify conformance of completed work against specifications and tolerances, making adjustments as needed.
  • Set up your own jobs, including preparing fixtures and tools, and run the first part to confirm correct setup.
  • Adjust CNC programs when required to improve performance or maintain tight tolerances.
  • Apply lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safety practices to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Work with decimals and thousandths of an inch to achieve close tolerances and high-quality metalworking results.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5+ years of industrial machine operating experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Proficiency in operating CNC machines, including vertical mills and Level 1 CNC operation.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Hands-on experience with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safety practices.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T symbols.
  • Ability to use vice grips and other basic tools to safely and accurately load parts.
  • Proficient use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Comfort working with close tolerances, including thousandths of an inch.
  • Ability to work with decimals and perform basic shop math to support machining operations.
  • Capability to set up jobs independently and run the first part to verify setup.
  • Ability to adjust CNC programs and process offsets when required to maintain quality.
  • Extensive machine shop and metalworking skills, including familiarity with Haas and Brother machines.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean machine shop environment with modern CNC equipment, including vertical mills and Haas and Brother machines. Training is typically provided on a day shift, with flexibility to train on other shifts if needed. Available schedules include a swing shift from Monday through Thursday, 3:30 pm to 2:00 am, and a weekend shift from Friday through Sunday, 6:00 am to 6:30 pm, each offering a shift differential. The setting is industrial and safety-focused, with established procedures such as lockout/tagout and the use of precision measuring tools. Work involves standing at machines, handling metal parts, and operating multiple CNC units in a structured production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $29.70/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
