Job description

Shop/Rental Technician
Summary: The position of Rental Technician is responsible for the oversight of all company rental assets. Both Certified and Traditional that flow through their local branch. This responsibility includes the effective inspection, scheduled servicing, maintaining and repair of rental fleet assets at a high level of competency and quality. The Rental Fleet is the primary and priority concern of this individual.
Job Duties:
In some cases the Rental Technician position may require more than one individual to satisfactorily maintain and see to the rental fleet. Under the supervision of the local Service Manager the individual will work to:
  • Inspect all incoming Rental Machines thoroughly to determine if repairs or maintenance is needed and document finding on proper forms
  • Maintain good records for time, parts, supplies, etc. for repairs and maintenance
  • In a timely fashion, complete and submit all inspection or other paper work to the proper individuals for processing.
  • Communicate with the Service Manager daily regarding repair or maintenance issues that will affect the turnaround or status of Rental Fleet machines.
  • Maintain and care for shop tools and work area.
  • Diagnose, maintain, service and repair all rental machines within the accepted time frame. This may require requesting additional help from other technicians to meet the objectives.
  • First and foremost the individual must comply with all safety and security requirements of the Company and branch.
  • Apply professional troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to equipment maintenance
  • Analyze equipment operation and functions
  • Attend training specific to the Rental Tech position and factory/company scheduled training
  • Plan in advance for upcoming repairs and maintenance
  • Pre-order materials such as filters, fluids, and maintenance for known upcoming services or repairs
  • Perform all repairs and services in a timely fashion and return readied machines to the yard.
  • Report any machine status changes to the proper individual immediately
  • Test all machines after repairs or service for proper operation.

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent, a 2 year technical degree or comparable military training is preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in the heavy equipment industry or a related field
  • Excellent written and oral communication and basic mathematical skills.
  • Proficient with a computer, including the use of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and diagnostic use using manufacturer provided programs.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, push, pull, twist and carry and lift up to 70lbs.
  • Ability to climb and perform work on heights of 15 feet
  • Maintain excellent attendance record
  • Must provide own hand tools
  • Must be able to pass a background, physical, and drug screen
