Job description


METAL CRAFT
, located in Elk River, MN is a precision machining company. Our company mission is to provide custom precision manufacturing and innovative services to medical, aviation, space, defense, and emerging high-tech industries.


The WELDER/MACHINE OPERATOR role is responsible for doing various types of weld preparation, welding, and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. As work fluctuates, the WELDER/MACHINE OPERATOR may operate a variety of CNC machines, Swiss machines, manual turning machines and perform a series of machining operations as defined in the job routings such as turning, boring, threading, and facing on metal and plastic work pieces.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Interpretation of mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbology.


Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.


Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.


Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors.


Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as tig welding, gas tungsten arc, shielded metal arc welding, and laser beam welding.


Operate acetylene torches for cutting, welding, and brazing.


Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.


Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.


Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.


Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding. Inspect completed welds using precision measuring equipment to ensure accuracy.


Perform basic machine/equipment maintenance on assigned equipment.


Comply with company programs including ISO, FDA, GMP (good manufacturing practices), 6S program, Lean Manufacturing, etc.


Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of conduct.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent; minimum 2 years of welding experience and trade school education.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Understanding of Welding equipment and the different processes; Able to pass a 6G aerospace pipe test (within 60 days of hire); general knowledge of manual machining (chucker, engine lathe, manual mill); understanding of deburring tools.


TIG Welder Certification


Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.


Ability to read blueprints.


Ability to weld; Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, and other alloys as needed.


Ability to use inspection equipment.


Proficient in assigned welding techniques.
