KLS Earthworks & Environmental is looking for experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our growing field team.

We are looking for skilled, safety-conscious operators with experience operating one or more pieces of heavy equipment, including:

Reporting to the Site Supervisor, Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment while working closely with supervisors, other operators, and ground crews to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Safely and efficiently operate one or more types of heavy construction equipment.
  • Complete earthworks, excavation, grading, loading, backfilling, material placement, site development, and other work based on project requirements.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, safety checks, and basic maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, ground markings, and other project information as required.
  • Work safely around underground and overhead utilities.
  • Maintain required grades, depths, slopes, and elevations based on the work being completed.
  • Perform rough and/or fine grading where experience allows.
  • Utilize GPS and machine-control systems where applicable.
  • Work safely and effectively around ground crews, other equipment, trucks, and active construction operations.
  • Identify equipment issues or unsafe conditions and report them to the Supervisor.
  • Assist ground crews and other team members when equipment is not in use.
  • Follow all KLS safety policies, procedures, and site requirements.


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Experience operating one or more of the following: excavator, dozer, loader, grader, skid steer, packer, rock truck, or similar heavy equipment.
  • Previous experience in earthworks, civil construction, underground utilities, site development, or grading is preferred.
  • Finish grading and GPS/machine-control experience are considered strong assets.
  • Ability to safely work around underground utilities and active ground crews.
  • Strong awareness of equipment capabilities and site conditions.
  • Strong critical-thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • Willingness to assist outside of the equipment when required.
  • Physically capable of performing construction-related duties, including lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work out of town when required.
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and occasional weekends based on project demands.
  • Must comply with KLS' drug and alcohol policy and complete required pre-employment testing and fit testing.
