Job Title: New Hire Utility Operator

Job Description

As a New Hire Utility Operator, you will be responsible for learning to operate equipment associated with handling aluminum products. You will start as a Utility employee and receive training to operate, support, and move materials using lifting techniques and hoists. This role requires adherence to safe job practices, SOPs, and meeting quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all quality objectives are met and assist operators in operating extrusion or casting equipment.
• Report and review any unusual conditions to lead operators or supervisors.
• Work collaboratively in a team to meet daily production goals.
• Adhere to Union terms regarding shift movement and flexibility.
• Operate machinery, perform quality checks, and handle packing and inspecting tasks.
• Learn all departments and transition to a specific department based on preference.

Essential Skills

• 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing or related fields.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience in machine operation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to learn forklift operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in production, assembly, or material handling.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting 15-50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally with assistance.
• Experience with hand tools, quality control, and inspection.

Work Environment

Work in a non-climate-controlled environment that is spacious and open, though it can be loud due to machinery. Summers are hot and winters are heated. Potential for 10-12 hour days and six-day weeks. The role involves working around grease, oil, and hydraulic fluids necessary for machine operation. Flexibility is required as shifts are dictated by the Union, and all jobs are bid upon.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chesterfield, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.81 - $20.81/hr.
