Job Description

This position offers an opportunity for a reliable and safety-conscious Machine Operator to join a busy Paint Department within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. You will support multiple production areas, including blasting, surface preparation, assembly, and material handling, to help maintain an efficient and consistent production flow. The role suits a versatile team player who enjoys hands-on work, can adapt to changing priorities, and takes pride in producing quality work in a fast-paced shop.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and machinery within the Paint Department in a safe, efficient, and consistent manner.
  • Support blasting operations by preparing and handling components for production.
  • Assist with surface preparation activities, including masking, cleaning, and staging materials prior to painting.
  • Perform assembly-related tasks and support production teams as required to maintain workflow.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials throughout the facility using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools for tasks such as deburring, grinding, and other finishing work.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure completed work meets company standards and specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by following all safety procedures and housekeeping practices.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to meet production schedules, deadlines, and daily targets.
  • Follow instructions and standard operating procedures related to welding, overhead crane, and forklift operations where applicable.
  • Adapt to different tasks and production priorities as needed to support overall shop operations.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing shop environment.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Experience with deburring, grinding, and other basic finishing operations.
  • Strong English communication skills to follow instructions and collaborate with the team.
  • Demonstrated safety awareness and commitment to working in a safe manner.
  • Ability to support welding, overhead crane, forklift, and material handling activities as required.
  • Capability to work in a heavy industrial environment and perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work on a day shift and remain open to potential shift changes as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Forklift ticket or prior forklift operating experience is an asset.
  • Overhead crane ticket or prior overhead crane operating experience is an asset.
  • Experience working in a paint, blasting, or coating environment is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with quality checks and basic inspection practices in a manufacturing setting.
  • Interest in pursuing long-term growth into a skilled trade or related industrial role.
  • Comfort working with welding operations and heavy industrial equipment in a shop environment.

Why Work Here?

You will join a highly safety-focused operation with a very low incident rate and a strong emphasis on looking after its people. The organization offers long-term opportunities to grow into trades, with a culture of promoting from within and an average shop tenure of 11 years, demonstrating stability and loyalty. As an ITA-certified shop, you can gain apprentice hours and build a recognized trade career while working in a family-oriented environment that values teamwork and mutual support. In addition, you can benefit from a 4% RSP contribution, reflecting a commitment to your long-term financial well-being.

Work Environment

The facility is a heavy industrial manufacturing shop producing rims for the mining industry, with approximately 26 people working on the production floor in a very large, open environment. The shop is a cold, dirty, and rugged setting typical of heavy industry, and many employees have been there for over 20 years, creating a stable and experienced workforce. You will work with industrial equipment, paint and blasting machinery, hand and power tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment. The standard shift is a day shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and candidates must remain open to working both shifts if schedules change.
