JOB SUMMARY:

The Press/Weld Operator is responsible for operating mechanical power presses, brake presses, and spot-welding equipment to produce and assemble metal products according to work instructions and production standards. This role ensures the efficient and accurate fabrication of metal components used in our products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Machine Operation:

  • Operate mechanical power presses and brake presses using air or foot-activated controls.
  • Perform spot welding and other welding techniques as required to assemble metal parts.
  • Assist in machine set up as directed by crew leader, set up person, or supervisor.

Production:

  • Obtain the workload from the dispatch list.
  • Produce products according to routings, quality, and production standards under the direction of a crew leader, set up person, or supervisor.
  • Operate mechanical power or brake presses and air or foot-activated spot-welding machines as assigned.
  • Fill out load tags accurately and timely.
  • Repair assembly errors as directed by the supervisor.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of production activities, machine settings, and maintenance performed.
  • Turn in the number of pieces produced on each work order in a timely manner according to procedure.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status and any issues encountered.

Quality Control:

  • Inspect all parts and final assemblies for accuracy and quality.
  • Report any non-standard conditions to the crew leader, set up person, or supervisor.
  • Perform routine equipment checks as required.

Safety and Maintenance:

  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Report any unsafe conditions to the lead person or supervisor immediately.
  • Perform daily inspections on presses, welding equipment, and other machinery.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure efficient workflow and resolve any production issues.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status and any issues encountered

Workplace Organization:

  • Follow 7-S policies and procedures, meeting established goals.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to a noisy and busy manufacturing environment.
  • Use of PPE, including safety glasses/goggles, gloves, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
  • Working in a fast-paced setting to meet production deadlines.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent; additional technical education is a plus.
  2. Minimum of 2 years' experience operating and setting up mechanical power presses and hydraulic presses in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  3. Experience in metal fabrication, preferably in the production of metal storage cabinets or similar products.
  4. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  5. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  6. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  10. Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  11. Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
