Job description

Snelling is currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Man – Lathe Machinist to join a well-established manufacturing company in Birmingham. This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with strong machining experience and the ability to oversee daily production activities while operating large industrial lathes.
Schedule: 6:30am-2:30pm, with overtime as needed
Starting pay: $30.00/hr, depending on experience
Responsibilities for Lead Man – Lathe Machinist:
  • Lead and coordinate daily activities of machining personnel on the shop floor.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot Dainichi CNC lathes and LeBlond manual lathes.
  • Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions.
  • Ensure parts are manufactured to required specifications and tolerances.
  • Monitor production schedules and assist with workflow prioritization.
  • Train and mentor machine operators and machinists as needed.
  • Perform machine setups, tooling changes, and quality inspections.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
Qualifications Need for Lead Man – Lathe Machinist:
  • Minimum 5+ years of machining steel products and large industrial components
  • Previous leadership, lead man, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong experience operating and setting up Dainichi lathes and LeBlond lathes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, feeds, speeds, and tooling applications.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.
