Job description

Position Title: Shipper Receiver

Department: Shipping

Reports To: Shipping Crew Leader / Shipping Supervisor

Location: Huntsville, ON

Position Summary

The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for loading and unloading trailers, processing shipment orders, organizing inventory, and maintaining a clean and safe shipping environment. This role supports overall plant operations by coordinating the flow of materials and finished products, in alignment with safety and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort, package, and load finished products onto flatbed trucks, ensuring products are free from damage and loaded according to safety protocols.
  • Prepare shipments by pulling, assembling, palletizing, stretch-wrapping, packaging, and labeling materials.
  • Verify all incoming and outgoing shipments by inspecting and counting/measuring to confirm accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Place inventory in designated storage locations and maintain an organized stock area.
  • Deliver materials (e.g., starter pipe, supplies) to various plant areas as needed.
  • Bundle and move pipe to appropriate yard storage areas.
  • Safely operate forklifts and cranes in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts within the shipping department.
  • Support and participate in LEAN and 5S initiatives.
  • Actively engage in Health & Safety training and promote a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Communication Requirements

Internal:

  • Plant Supervisors, Crew Leaders, and Operational Support Teams - coordinate, clarify, and exchange shipment-related information.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, year-round. (Huntsville Location Only)
  • Previous forklift and/or heavy machinery experience is an asset, with preference given to operators who have experience with 20,000 - 30,000 lb. Forklifts.
  • Must be able to positively adapt to changes in shipping/receiving schedules, including occasional unscheduled overtime. Must also be willing to work modified shifts, as required by business volumes
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Previous experience in 5-S and Lean Manufacturing is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills, prioritizing work, and exercising initiative to ensure an efficient and quality level of service.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy,
  • Basic computer skill

Education:

  • No formal education requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent: Standing, walking, handling materials (light and heavy), lifting (light <27 kg), pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, twisting.
  • Occasional: Lifting (heavy/assisted >27 kg), carrying, climbing, detailed hand/finger movements, confined work areas, prolonged concentration.
  • Must regularly lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift or move coils up to 80 lbs.
  • Stacking coils up to six feet in height may be required.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to a typical manufacturing environment with potential for noise, dirt, dust, temperature changes, and moving mechanical equipment.
  • PPE required: steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, safety goggles.
  • Frequent deadlines and interruptions.
  • Occasional travel and extended hours may be required.

Compensation & Incentives

  • Competitive wages commensurate with experience.
  • Quarterly Bonuses
  • Signing and retention bonus totaling $2,000:
  • $1,000 payable after six (6) months of continuous employment.
  • $1,000 payable after one (1) year of continuous employment.
