Job Description

The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) includes undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence. The mission of the College is to provide students with a high-value education that emphasizes the fundamentals of their disciplines. The College provides a learning environment that engages students, faculty, and community stakeholders for regional advancement. Many of our programs are accredited or are being accredited by ABET.

CEC invites applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Computer Science to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level in the field of Computer Science. We are looking for a passionate educator who can engage students in the practical, theoretical, and technical aspects of computer science. The start date could be in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.

Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a tenure track position with an emphasis on delivering high-quality instruction and preparing students for Computer Science/Information Technology based roles in industry. Teaching load will be 3 courses per long semester, comprising in-person, online, and hybrid classes. We are a student-success driven university, and faculty keep regular office hours.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications:

(Assistant Professor Rank)

  • Ph.D. or Doctorate in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching or assisting in teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Proficiency in relevant tools and platforms (e.g., Eclipse, R-Studio, GenAI).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to student-centered teaching and continuous improvement.
  • Qualifications that meet expectations for tenure and rank at TAMUT (TAMUT University T&P Guidelines)

(Associate Professor Rankl)

  • Meet all the minimum requirements at the Assistant Professor rank
  • A high level of accomplishments as measured against the contributions of contemporaries in the field of Computer Science.
  • Research and service commensurate with the university's guidelines for the rank of associate professor.
  • At least 5 years of experience at the rank of Assistant Professor at a comparable university.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Doctorate from an accredited US university.
  • Experience in designing and delivering undergraduate computer science and artificial Intelligence/machine learning courses.
  • Industry experience or consulting in computer science or related fields.
  • Experience teaching in both in-person and online environments.
  • Competence in teaching classes on programming languages (such as Java, Python, R, etc.)
  • A relevant certification and/or industry experience are preferred.

  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours, if needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.
