Job description

The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher supports the lead teacher in creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This role focuses on helping children grow socially, emotionally, academically, and physically while fostering independence, curiosity, and a love of learning.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the lead teacher in planning and implementing daily lessons and classroom activities

  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment

  • Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and behavior guidance using positive strategies

  • Support small group and individual learning activities

  • Observe and document children’s growth and development as directed by the lead teachers
    Assist with supervision during arrival, dismissal, and specials on a daily basis.

  • Supervise lunch and recess daily

  • Help prepare materials and learning centers as directed by the lead teachers

  • Model respectful, caring, and developmentally appropriate interactions with children

  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with colleagues and families as needed and as directed by the lead teacher

  • Follow all school policies, licensing regulations, and safety procedures

  • Support Judaic teachers when needed such as during whole group activities; Tefillah, Shabbat, Havdalah and special program rehearsals.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young children (early childhood or elementary setting preferred)

  • Understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team
    Strong communication, flexibility, and organizational skills

  • Patience, warmth, and enthusiasm for working with young children

  • Demonstrates respect, professionalism, and effective communication when working with a team of teachers

  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a teaching team


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the day

  • Ability to go outside in 20-degree weather and above

  • Ability to sit on the floor with students 

  • Ability to lift to 10 pounds as needed
