Job Description A global leader in advanced robotics and automation is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer, Physical AI Systems to join its robotics engineering organization in Westborough, Massachusetts.
This role focuses on developing machine learning systems that enable autonomous robots to perceive, understand, and interact with the physical world. You will build and deploy AI models that help robotic platforms identify products, determine optimal grasp points, manipulate objects, and transport inventory safely and efficiently throughout highly automated fulfillment environments.
Working at the intersection of machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and large-scale automation, you will collaborate with software engineers, roboticists, and hardware teams to solve real-world challenges involving robotic picking, package handling, object recognition, and autonomous movement. Your work will directly impact the performance of robotic systems responsible for moving millions of items through complex operational environments.
This is a full-time employee (FTE) position based in Westborough, MA, with regular onsite collaboration in robotics development labs and testing facilities. Required Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years of industry experience in Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision, or a related technical field
  • Strong programming experience in Python
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning models into production environments
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Strong understanding of computer vision, object detection, segmentation, and perception systems
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and training pipelines
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including testing, Git, code reviews, and CI/CD
  • Ability to work closely with both software and hardware engineering teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience with robotics platforms and autonomous systems
  • Knowledge of ROS or ROS 2
  • Experience with robotic manipulation, grasp planning, or motion planning
  • Familiarity with RGB, depth camera, stereo vision, LiDAR, or multimodal sensor systems
  • Experience deploying machine learning models onto edge devices or robotic hardware
  • Exposure to reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or behavior modeling
  • Familiarity with simulation environments such as Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or related robotics tools
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a related field
What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities
  • Design, train, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models that enable robots to identify, locate, and manipulate physical objects
  • Develop computer vision systems that help robots distinguish boxes, totes, packages, and inventory items under varying environmental conditions
  • Build perception models that determine how robotic arms should approach, grasp, lift, and move objects of different sizes, shapes, and weights
  • Partner with robotics software engineers to integrate machine learning models into production robotic systems
  • Analyze real-world robot performance data to improve picking accuracy, handling efficiency, and system reliability
  • Develop training and evaluation pipelines using data collected from deployed robotic platforms
  • Optimize machine learning models for low-latency inference on physical robotic hardware
  • Design experiments to improve robotic manipulation success rates across challenging operational scenarios
  • Validate model performance through lab testing, simulation, and real-world robotic deployments
  • Contribute to the development of next-generation Physical AI systems that combine perception, decision-making, and robotic control
