Machine Learning Object Detection information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Machine Learning Object Detection Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Machine Learning Object Detection Engineer, you need a solid background in computer science, mathematics, and deep learning principles, often backed by a relevant degree and experience in computer vision. Familiarity with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and OpenCV, as well as experience with annotation tools and GPU computing, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and addressing complex challenges. These competencies ensure accurate model development, efficient deployment, and continual improvement of object detection systems in real-world applications.

What are some common challenges faced when working on machine learning object detection projects?

One of the main challenges in machine learning object detection roles is dealing with the quality and quantity of annotated data, as accurate labeling is essential for model performance. Another common challenge is managing variations in object scale, lighting, and occlusion within real-world images, which can affect detection accuracy. Additionally, balancing model accuracy with computational efficiency—especially for real-time applications—often requires careful model selection and optimization. Collaboration with data engineers and domain experts is also typical to ensure data relevance and model applicability.

What is machine learning object detection?

Machine learning object detection is a field within artificial intelligence that focuses on identifying and locating objects within images or videos. It uses algorithms and deep learning models, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to analyze visual data and predict the presence and position of various objects. Object detection is widely used in applications like autonomous vehicles, security surveillance, and image search. The process typically involves training models on labeled datasets so they can accurately detect and classify multiple objects in complex scenes.

Job description

 The Role:

As the Hydro Tester, you will test boilers, tanks, fittings, pipes, and similar objects to detect and locate leaks, using compressed air or water pressure

Your Responsibilities:

  • Installs fittings on object to seal outlets and connects object to high-pressure air or water line.
  • Activates air compressor or water pump until gauge registers specified internal pressure.
  • Observes gauge for loss of pressure indicative of leaks and examines object for escaping air or water to detect leaks.
  • Electrical testing.
  • Marks object at source of leaks for subsequent repair.
  • May apply soap solution to surface of object or immerse object to facilitate location of air leaks.
  • May test object under high pressure to ensure compliance with product safety ratings.
  • An understanding of and compliance with employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
  • Uses ASME code, processes and procedures to complete testing; completes visual Weld and Braze inspection.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
  • Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different workstations as production needs require.
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.

Our Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines and/or tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals and complex shop mathematics.
  • Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
