How much do machine learning engineer quantization jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 23, 2026, the average yearly pay for machine learning engineer quantization in Memphis, TN is $125,094.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $98,600.00 and $150,600.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges Machine Learning Engineers face when implementing quantization techniques in production models?

Machine Learning Engineers working on quantization often encounter challenges such as balancing reduced model size and computational efficiency with maintaining acceptable accuracy levels. Adapting quantization methods to different hardware platforms can also require significant testing and optimization. Additionally, engineers must frequently address compatibility issues with existing deployment pipelines and ensure that quantization-aware training is properly integrated to minimize performance degradation. Collaboration with hardware and software teams is essential to streamline deployment and achieve optimal results.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Machine Learning Engineer Quantization, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Machine Learning Engineer Quantization, you need a solid background in machine learning, deep learning, and computer science, typically supported by a degree in a related field. Familiarity with quantization techniques, frameworks such as TensorFlow Lite or PyTorch, and experience with hardware accelerators are crucial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective collaboration set top performers apart. These capabilities are vital for efficiently deploying high-performing models on resource-constrained devices and ensuring scalable, real-world AI solutions.

What does a Machine Learning Engineer Quantization do?

A Machine Learning Engineer specializing in quantization focuses on optimizing machine learning models by reducing their size and computational requirements without significantly sacrificing accuracy. This involves converting model parameters and computations from high-precision formats (like 32-bit floating point) to lower-precision formats (such as 8-bit integers). Quantization enables faster inference, lower memory usage, and allows models to run efficiently on edge devices and mobile platforms. These engineers work closely with data scientists and hardware teams to implement, test, and validate quantized models in production environments.

What is the difference between Machine Learning Engineer Quantization vs Data Scientist?

AspectMachine Learning Engineer QuantizationData Scientist
Required CredentialsBachelor's or master's in CS, ML, or related; certifications in ML or AIBachelor's or master's in statistics, CS, or related; certifications in data analysis or statistics
Work EnvironmentDeveloping optimized ML models, deploying quantized models for efficiencyAnalyzing data, building predictive models, interpreting results
Industry UsageTech companies, AI hardware firms, embedded systemsFinance, healthcare, marketing, research institutions

Machine Learning Engineer Quantization focuses on optimizing ML models for deployment efficiency, often working closely with hardware and software teams. Data Scientists analyze data and build models for insights. While both roles require ML knowledge, quantization engineers specialize in model compression techniques, whereas data scientists focus on data analysis and interpretation.

Job description

Position Overview
The Data Engineer - Business Intelligence Architect is a hands-on technical leader responsible for end-to-end ownership of the enterprise data pipeline and analytics layer. This includes ingesting and transforming raw data, and designing, building, and optimizing enterprise analytics solutions. This role combines deep technical execution with architectural ownership, modern data modeling, and advanced analytics.
The role bridges data engineering and business intelligence architecture, ensuring that data is not only available and reliable, but also well-modeled, governed and consumable for decision making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain end-to-end BI and analytics solutions, data engineering pipelines, semantic models, and BI tools.
  • Provide hands-on support for the existing analytics environment (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Power BI) while planning and executing phased migrations to new platform.
  • Balance run-the-business BI support with platform modernization initiatives.
  • Identify, prioritize, and refactor legacy BI assets for migration or coexistence with new platform solutions.
  • Serve as a technical lead, actively contributing code while collaborating on architectural direction and best practices.
  • Architect and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines.
  • Build and maintain enterprise semantic layers and dimensional models.
  • Mentor BI developers through hands-on guidance, code reviews, and technical coaching.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance, reliability, and data quality issues across legacy and Fabric platforms.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and systems thinking mindset
  • Ability to translate business questions into scalable data and BI solutions
  • Expert-level experience designing and building enterprise BI solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric or Databricks and hybrid BI architecture.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, and Power BI.
  • Advanced SQL development and performance tuning skills.
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing, lakehouse architecture, and dimensional modeling.
  • Exposure to ERP systems and complex enterprise data environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with business stakeholders.

Preferred / Plus Qualifications
  • Python skills for analytics, automation, and data processing.
  • Experience with machine learning or predictive analytics in a BI context.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric
  • Familiarity with modern ML frameworks and model integration.
  • Experience with Azure-based analytics services and enterprise data integration.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in BI, analytics, or data platform development.
  • 3+ years in a senior, lead, or architect-level role with significant hands-on responsibilities.
