Job description

Dessert Holdings is looking for a Full Time Production / Relief Machine Operator to join our team based in London, ON. This individual will be responsible for setting up and troubleshooting equipment to maintain production standards. You'll ensure cleanliness, support line staff, and adhere to safety and quality protocols. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (this is meant to be an outline, not an exhaustive list of responsibilities)

  • Set up equipment and troubleshoot adjustments to maintain product standards and optimal line performance.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specification sheets to determine the proper order of production operations.
  • Perform initial test runs to verify equipment functionality before full-scale production.
  • Use tools such as digital scales, calipers, and measuring cups to ensure food products and packaging adhere to required specifications.
  • Report deviations from specifications and collaborate with relevant teams to implement corrective actions.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including preventive maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain hygiene standards of equipment and facility according to GMP and Master Sanitation Schedules.
  • Remove waste from production areas as needed.
  • Safely use, store, and maintain all company-supplied cleaning equipment, hand tools, and materials.
  • Support Setup Support and contract cleaning and maintenance services when necessary.
  • Maintain all BRC audit paperwork and other required documentation.
  • Liaise with staff throughout the shift to ensure continuous process and quality standards.
  • Support line staff with general troubleshooting, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and performance standards.
  • Support training and continuous learning activities within the department.
  • Practice the five steps of cleaning at all times.
  • Start and operate all equipment within the assigned department, except for critical equipment like the VRT and Abrigo robotic cutters handled by the Maintenance department.
  • Perform product changeovers on non-critical equipment smoothly with minimal downtime and accurate time tracking.
  • Maintain the highest quality & safety standards, adhering to all GMPs, policies and procedures.?

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma is preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent; technical degree is a plus.
  • Must be legally eligible to work full-time in Canada.
  • 1-2 years of experience working as a machine operator in a continuous process manufacturing environment, preferably food or pharmaceutical.
  • Chemical knowledge and comfortable working with exposure to cold temperatures.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
  • Adhering to safety, quality and performance standards.
  • Ability to work independently, well organized, effective judgment.
  • Outstanding attention to detail with the ability to understand mechanics and technical tasks
  • Excellent attendance record and demonstrated reliability.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting, climb stairs, navigate around equipment, and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Cooperative and works well with others, strong communicator.

Shift Summary:

  • Required to be available for a minimum of four shifts per week from Monday to Saturday, with Saturdays being a regularly required shift.
  • All the shifts are rotational and run for 10 hours with a 30-minute break added.

Schedule:

  • Schedules are posted 2 weeks in advance.
  • Must be able to accommodate all the starting times on the specified shift
  • Start times could be different every day,
    • A-Shift start times are between 1:00 am - 9:45am
    • B-Shift start times are between 11:30am - 8:15 pm

Pay Rate: While performing Production role, probationary rate per hour is $21.18 and full rate is $23.53

                  While performing Machine Operator role, probationary rate per hour is $25.57 and full rate is $28.42
