Job description

Job Description:
The Tactical TPM (Technical Project Manager) will act as a critical technical bridge between the Data Center Execution Engineering team and early-stage "Incubation" project focused on next-generation Machine Learning (ML) infrastructure for a Fortune 500 Hyperscale Technology Leader. This role is responsible for the strategic oversight, requirement gathering, and technical management of load emulation systems for power distribution. The candidate will ensure that new ML rack technologies are accurately simulated to validate power distribution behavior before fleetwide deployment.

Reno, Nevada

Travel Requirements:
Less than 25% (Primarily for vendor site visits and hardware evaluations)

Engagement Terms:
12-Month Contract (no benefits)

Compensation:
Starting at $70/hr DOE

Responsibilities:
A. Technical Requirement Gathering & Incubation Management

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for 4–5 simultaneous "incubations" or new technology test-beds.
  • Interface directly with internal electrical engineers and leads at a global hyperscale provider to extract, define, and document complex requirements for load emulation hardware.
  • Translate high-level ML rack power profiles into technical hardware specifications for power distribution testing.
  • Lead the strategy for power dissipation (emulation levels vs. ground-sinking) to ensure safe and accurate simulation of electrical behavior in a mission-critical environment.

B. Portfolio Development & Vendor Oversight

  • Create and understand requirements to develop a comprehensive portfolio of devices that the team can tap into for simulating load.
  • Oversee external vendors, performing deep-dive reviews of technical specifications and performance data.
  • Evaluate and advise on potential vendor transitions, ensuring that new hardware partners align with industry-leading hyperscale standards and technical specifications.
  • Conduct rigorous peer reviews of vendor deliverables, including hardware models, sequence of operations, and testing protocols.

C. Support Execution & Strategy

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure emulation hardware integrates seamlessly with existing data center infrastructure.
  • Identify and solution technical issues or outages related to emulation hardware in direct support of incubation stakeholders.
  • Generate solution/upgrade options for emulation devices that have a fleetwide impact on power reliability and availability.

D. Program Administration & Communication

  • Operate internal issue-tracking platforms to manage project milestones and technical escalations.
  • Produce technical presentations to communicate findings, hardware evaluations, and strategic options to internal executive stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed spreadsheets for engineering calculations and tabular evaluations of load profiles.

Requirements:

  • Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering (required) or equivalent experience with electrical systems.
  • Seniority: 7+ years of experience in project management, electrical engineering, or technical hardware development.
  • Specialized Expertise: Direct experience with emulation or simulation hardware (strongly preferred) and power distribution systems.
  • Technical Skillset: Strong understanding of Machine Learning (ML) rack behavior and its impact on mission-critical electrical distribution.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent technical communication skills with the ability to express complex electrical concepts to both internal leads and external vendors.
