Primary Purpose

Working directly with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operations Officer, this position’s main objective is to advance the organization’s mission throughout the region and increase donated revenue. The Development Director’s primary areas of responsibility will focus on donor cultivation, solicitation, and data management through individual, corporate and foundation giving. This position will supervise the part‑time Development Associate and will work with the contracted fundraising consultants.

Qualifications Education
  • B.A./B.S. (highly preferred) in emphasis or concentration in business, nonprofit management, marketing, public relations or related field.
Experience
  • 5+ years of formal non‑profit development experience; however, a similar record of professional service, combined with a working knowledge of, and skills for development work, will receive careful consideration.

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Conceptualize, implement, and manage fundraising efforts designed to increase revenue and participation in annual giving programs and special event programs.
  • Maintain portfolio of donors, cultivating them for eventual major donor classification. Work closely with Chief Operations Officer on regular portfolio review and moves management strategies.
  • Identify, research and investigate new opportunities for funding from a wide variety of individual, corporate, foundation and governmental sources to expand donor base, including identifying prospective planned giving donors.
  • Enter all pertinent information regarding donor communication into central database, ensuring complete and accurate profiles on all prospects including solicitations, notes, and all donor gift acknowledgment.
  • Oversee all special events, in coordination with the Development Associate and fundraising consultants.
  • Supervise all Development Department Operations and oversee all Development‑related positions.
  • Manage capital campaign, including scheduling, data entry and coordinating meetings and visits with the assistance of the part‑time Development Associate.
  • Identify, recruit, manage and communicate with giving volunteers dedicated to specific fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure all efforts communicate consistent messaging to pre‑defined audiences and are appropriately timed.
  • Participate in development of campaign materials, case statements and other collateral materials.
  • Oversee content preparation for social media posts, newsletter articles and direct mail appeals.
  • Manage the preparation of grant applications with the support from contracted grant writer.
  • Participate in professional development organizations, travel locally, and out‑of‑town as necessary.
  • Participate in special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
