Machine Learning Contract Remote information

What is a machine learning contract remote job?

Machine learning contract remote jobs are temporary work opportunities where professionals use machine learning techniques to solve problems for organizations, but do so remotely, often from home or another location. These roles typically involve building, training, and deploying models, analyzing data, and collaborating with teams virtually. Contracts can vary in length and scope, allowing flexibility for both the employer and the worker. These positions are ideal for individuals seeking project-based work or more flexible schedules, and require strong technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively online.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a machine learning contractor in a remote role?

To thrive as a Machine Learning Contractor working remotely, you need strong proficiency in mathematics, programming (typically Python), and a solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, usually supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with tools and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure is essential, as well as experience with version control systems like Git. Excellent self-motivation, time management, and communication skills help you effectively collaborate with distributed teams and manage multiple projects independently. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality, scalable solutions and meeting client expectations in a flexible, remote work environment.

What are common challenges faced by remote machine learning contractors, and how can they be addressed?

Remote machine learning contractors often face challenges such as managing communication across time zones, accessing necessary data securely, and staying aligned with the client's project expectations. To address these, it’s important to establish clear communication channels, use secure data transfer protocols, and schedule regular check-ins with project stakeholders. Building strong documentation habits and leveraging collaborative tools like version control or shared notebooks can also help ensure smooth workflow and project transparency.

Job description

Β

We are seeking aΒ Machine Learning EngineerΒ with a passion for building mission-critical capabilities to join our talent network. Working at NT Concepts means that you are part of an innovative, agile company dedicated to solving the most critical challenges in National Security. If meaningful work, initiative, creativity, and continuous self-improvement are important to your career, explore What's Next with us.

Mission Focus: Our machine learning teams bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI research and operational government missions. We are looking for engineers who can take machine learning and Computer Vision (CV) solutions from early research and prototyping all the way into stable, scalable production environments.

Β

In this role, you will help design, build, and deploy automated ML workflows that directly support national security analysts and operators. We embrace modern agile practices, a DataOps/DevSecOps/MLOps ethos to "automate-first," and modern cloud-native architectures.

Clearance:Β ActiveΒ TS/SCIΒ required (CI Polygraph preferred or must be eligible to obtain)

Location/Flexibility: Vienna, VA / Chantilly, VA (Hybrid / Flexible Remote options available)

ResponsibilitiesΒ

  • Prototype to Production:Β Support the full machine learning lifecycle, taking computer vision models from experimentation and notebooks into containerized, high-throughput production microservices.
  • Mission Alignment:Β Work closely with mission partners, domain experts, and technical teams to understand real-world operational challenges and translate them into practical ML requirements.
  • MLOps & Pipeline Automation:Β Build, maintain, and optimize robust pipelines for data preparation, model training, validation, versioning, deployment, and monitoring using modern tools (such as MLflow, Kubeflow, and GitLab CI/CD).
  • Model Development & Tuning:Β Train, fine-tune, and evaluate deep learning algorithms for computer vision tasks (e.g., object detection, classification, segmentation, tracking).
  • System Integration:Β Collaborate with cross-functional software engineers and cloud architects to integrate ML models cleanly into larger enterprise systems and secure cloud infrastructures.
  • Optimization & Governance: Optimize inference performance, apply secure coding practices, and monitor models for drift and reliability once deployed.Β

Β Qualifications

  • Clearance:Β ActiveΒ TS/SCIΒ clearance.
  • Hands-On Experience:Β Demonstrated professional experience developing, testing, and deploying machine learning models into real-world or production environments.
  • Deep Learning & CV:Β Strong programming skills inΒ PythonΒ and hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks (primarilyΒ PyTorch, OpenCV, TensorFlow, or NumPy).
  • ML Lifecycle & MLOps:Β Practical familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and ML lifecycle/pipeline platforms (e.g.,Β MLflow, Kubeflow, AWS SageMaker).
  • Cloud & DevOps Foundations:Β Familiarity working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern development practices (Git, CI/CD pipelines, Agile methodologies).
  • Customer & Mission Mindset:Β Ability to understand the end-user's mission objectives, iterate based on user feedback, and clearly communicate technical approaches.Β

Preferred / Desired Skills:

  • Experience working within secure, air-gapped, or classified cloud environments (e.g., AWS GovCloud / C2S).
  • Experience with synthetic data generation techniques or multi-modal models.
  • Exposure to Large Language Models (LLMs) or generative AI workflows.
  • Familiarity with distributed model training and GPU resource management.Β

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10-15 pounds at times.
