Radiation Oncology Team Opportunity At Mercy Medical Center

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40

Summary: This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by delivering ionizing radiation to patients following the prescription of the Radiation Oncologist. Assists with treatment simulations and tumor localization with the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist and Dosimetrist.

Job Description

Job Duties:

  • Delivers Radiation therapy treatment
  • Assist with CT simulations
  • Constructs cerrobend electron blocks
  • Performs verification simulation on treatment machine
  • Completes and maintains treatment schedule
  • Performs weekly chart reviews
  • Assist with HDR procedures if needed
  • Performs initial chart review
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a solid understanding of the technical aspects of radiation therapy treatment administration.
  • Must be able to communicate well with patients and their families and other members of the health care team.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of radiation safety issues.
  • Must be proficient on the treatment machines within 6 months of hire.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in radiation oncology preferred.

Education:

  • Certified as a Radiation Therapist by ARRT or board eligible for certification

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

  • Iowa Department of Public Health licensure required
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
