Job description

Salary: $65,000 - $85,000

Service Platform Engineers are responsible for designing, deploying, and continuously improving the centralized platforms, tools, and automation that enable Machado Consultings service delivery. This role is more proactive than reactive, focusing on scale, consistency, and long-term operational health while still reacting at times to repair bugs or address failures in the platform.

Service Platform Engineers build and maintain automation, standardized configurations, and shared systems used across clients and internal teams. They work closely with other departments to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and ensure that tooling and workflows align with real service delivery needs. Responsibilities include automation and scripting, deployment of new tools, lifecycle management of existing platforms, and proactive system improvements across client environments.

Service Platform Engineers will work with systems spanning Microsoft 365, Azure, endpoint management, identity, security tooling, monitoring platforms, and internal service automation. While this role does not routinely respond to support tickets, it directly impacts the efficiency, quality, and scalability of client-facing support and services.

At Machado Consulting, Information Security is embedded in everything we do. Service Platform Engineers are expected to design, implement, and maintain platforms and automation with security as a core requirement. This includes applying secure-by-default principles, supporting compliance initiatives, and ensuring that centralized tools and workflows meet security and governance expectations.

Service Platform Engineers will collaborate with internal teams and clients on security-related initiatives and may assist with audits, assessments, and documentation where centralized systems or automation are involved.

Required Skills:

  • Must be self-motivated, team-oriented, and comfortable working independently
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to design scalable solutions
  • Ability to proactively identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when documenting systems and workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through; must be organized and process-driven
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and balance short-term improvements with long-term goals
  • Comfortable working with minimal direction and making informed technical decisions
  • Willingness to collaborate closely with other teams

Experience Preferred:

  • 35+ years of experience in systems engineering, automation, platform engineering, or equivalent roles
  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory / Azure Active Directory (Entra ID)
  • Experience with endpoint management platforms and/or RMM (Microsoft Intune or equivalent)
  • Strong PowerShell scripting experience; experience with other scripting or automation tools is a plus
  • Experience designing, deploying, or maintaining shared internal or customer-facing platforms
  • Familiarity with monitoring, backup, security, and management tooling commonly used in MSP environments
  • Understanding of cloud models and service architectures (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS)
  • Industry certifications are desired but not required

Service Platform Engineers may be required to work onsite from time to time. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation are required.
