Date Posted:

Location:
Vernon High School
District:
Vernon ISD
Vernon ISD is a 3A district located in Wilbarger County, about 50 miles west of Wichita Falls on 287, with an enrollment of 1710. Those students are spread out among our six campuses: McCord Elementary (Pre-K, Kinder, 1st); Vernon Elementary (2nd through 5th); Vernon Middle School (6th through 8th); Vernon High School (9th through 12th); Wichita Falls State Hospital Primary Program; and Vernon State Hospital Adolescent Forensic Program. We are a TIA district, with 41 teachers earning designations (12, Recognized; 23, Exemplary; 4, Masters) based on 2024-2025 data. Their allotments ranged from $7,800 to $28,000 and totaled approximately $563,219. Vernon ISD has a strong Curriculum & Instruction team, with an instructional coach assigned to each campus to help teachers succeed in the classroom. While we operate on a five-day work schedule, we have Early Release Fridays spread out throughout the year to offer our teachers a "no students" block of time to complete tasks and prepare lesson plans. We also have several professional development days scattered throughout the year to benefit teachers.
Vernon is located near the Oklahoma border and is exactly the midway point between the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and Amarillo. It is conveniently located, with the metroplex, Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene, and Oklahoma City all within a two and a half hour drive, which also means access to four major airports. For those who like the outdoors, fishing and hunting opportunities are abundant, and Copper Breaks State Park in Texas and the Wichita Mountains in Oklahoma are close by.
