What is an LPN in healthcare?

LPNs, or Licensed Practical Nurses, are healthcare professionals who provide basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and doctors. They assist with tasks such as monitoring patients’ health, administering medications, taking vital signs, and helping with daily activities like bathing and dressing. LPNs play a vital role in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and other healthcare settings, ensuring patients receive compassionate and effective care.

What are common challenges LPNs in Indiana face when transitioning between different healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics?

LPNs in Indiana often encounter challenges when moving between different healthcare settings due to varying patient populations, documentation systems, and protocols. For instance, working in a hospital may require adapting to faster-paced environments and more acute patient care, while nursing homes often involve long-term care and building deeper relationships with residents. Additionally, each setting may use different electronic health record systems and have distinct team structures, so LPNs need to be flexible and quick learners. Successfully navigating these transitions can enhance professional growth and skill diversity.

Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job opportunity.
