What is an LPN in a hospital?

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in a hospital are healthcare professionals who provide basic nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and doctors. Their duties often include monitoring patients' vital signs, administering medications, assisting with daily activities, and communicating patient concerns to the healthcare team. LPNs play a critical role in ensuring patient comfort and supporting the overall workflow in hospital settings. They require a state-issued license after completing a practical nursing program and passing the NCLEX-PN exam.

How does an LPN in a hospital typically collaborate with RNs and other healthcare professionals?

LPNs in hospitals work closely with Registered Nurses (RNs), physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to provide quality patient care. They often assist RNs by monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and reporting any changes in patient conditions. LPNs participate in team meetings, contribute to care planning, and communicate important patient information to ensure continuity of care. This collaborative environment supports professional development and helps LPNs expand their clinical skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LPN in a hospital?

To thrive as an LPN in a hospital, a practical nursing diploma, valid state licensure, and a solid understanding of patient care principles are essential. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, vital sign monitors, and basic medical equipment is commonly required.
