What does an LPN at GE do?

LPNs, or Licensed Practical Nurses, at GE Healthcare typically work in clinical or healthcare support roles, assisting with patient care, administering medications, and monitoring patient health. Their responsibilities can include working alongside registered nurses and physicians, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining accurate medical records. At GE or similar healthcare companies, LPNs may also be involved in supporting medical device testing or training. The specific duties can vary depending on the department and the products or services GE Healthcare provides. Overall, LPNs play a critical role in delivering quality healthcare and supporting medical teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LPN in a general environment?

To thrive as an LPN, you need a practical nursing diploma, current LPN licensure, and a solid grasp of basic nursing procedures and patient care. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR), vital sign monitoring equipment, and medication administration systems is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure make an LPN stand out. These competencies are crucial for delivering safe, compassionate care and ensuring effective collaboration within healthcare teams.

What are common challenges LPNs face when working in a long-term care facility, and how can they manage them?

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in long-term care settings often encounter challenges such as managing high patient loads, addressing complex medical and emotional needs of residents, and maintaining clear communication with interdisciplinary teams. To effectively manage these challenges, LPNs should prioritize strong organizational skills, stay updated on best practices for elderly care, and foster open communication with colleagues and families.
