Licensed mental health professionals (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, Psychologist, or equivalent) will be placed on the Certified Salary Schedule according to education and experience.
Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHPs) who require clinical supervision and meet requirements for Medicaid billing eligibility will be placed on the BA column of the salary schedule.

POSITION SUMMARY
Mapleton Community School seeks a compassionate, collaborative, and student-centered School-Based Mental Health Therapist / School Social Worker to provide direct mental health services, prevention programming, crisis response, family support, and care coordination for students and families.
This position offers a unique opportunity to help shape one of Oregon's emerging rural community school models. Mapleton has invested in a Family Resource Center, Community Health Workers, integrated student and family supports, and the transformation of its former middle school into a Community Center that will house health and wellness services, youth programming, a makerspace, commercial kitchen, and other community resources. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in designing and delivering innovative school-community mental health services that support students, families, and the broader Mapleton community.
As Oregon's model rural community school, Mapleton believes student wellness is foundational to academic success. This position serves as a critical member of the student support team, helping remove barriers to learning through counseling, prevention, intervention, and collaboration with educators, families, healthcare providers, and community partners.
Working within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), the therapist supports the development of students as Dynamic Communicators, Dynamic Thinkers, Dynamic Innovators, and Dynamic Advocates while helping create a culture where wellness, belonging, and resilience thrive.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The School-Based Mental Health Therapist / School Social Worker provides direct and indirect mental health services to students and families, including assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, case management, consultation, prevention programming, and coordination of community resources.
The position serves students across multiple tiers of support and assists the district in developing systems that promote student wellness, attendance, engagement, academic achievement, and positive school climate.
The therapist may provide services billable through Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan and other approved funding sources and is responsible for maintaining all required documentation, compliance, and professional licensure requirements.
DUTIES WILL BE PERFORMED CONSISTENTLY AND ACCURATELY AND INCLUDE, BUT MAY NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Direct Student Services

• Provide individual, group, and family counseling services.
• Conduct psychosocial, behavioral, and risk assessments.
• Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services.
• Support students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, behavioral challenges, substance use concerns, and other social-emotional needs.
• Develop intervention plans that increase student engagement, attendance, and academic success.
• Assist students in developing social-emotional skills, conflict resolution strategies, self-regulation, resilience, and healthy relationships.
• Participate in safety planning and threat assessment processes as needed.
• Support students during critical incidents and post-crisis recovery.

Family and Community Support

• Partner with families to identify strengths, needs, and supports.
• Assist families in accessing healthcare, mental health, housing, food security, and other community resources.
• Coordinate referrals and services with community mental health providers and partner agencies.
• Provide parent education, consultation, and support.
• Serve as a liaison between school, home, and community services.

School-Based Collaboration

• Participate in MTSS, Student Success Team, Section 504, Special Education, and other problem-solving teams.
• Provide consultation to teachers and staff regarding behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health concerns.
• Support development of behavior intervention plans and student support plans.
• Assist staff in implementing trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and restorative practices.
• Collaborate with Community Health Workers, Family Resource Center staff, administrators, and educators to coordinate wraparound supports.

Prevention and Systems Work

• Develop and facilitate prevention programs related to mental health, substance abuse prevention, suicide prevention, violence prevention, and social-emotional learning.
• Support school-wide initiatives that promote belonging, wellness, attendance, and positive school climate.
• Assist with implementation of district wellness initiatives aligned with Mapleton's Portrait of a Graduate.
• Contribute to district efforts to improve attendance, engagement, and student outcomes.

Documentation and Compliance

• Maintain accurate clinical records and Medicaid-compliant documentation.
• Complete required billing, reporting, and data collection activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, Medicaid, and Oregon reporting requirements.
• Participate in professional development and maintain all required licensure and certifications.

Other Duties

• Attend school and community events as appropriate.
• Participate in district committees and collaborative planning efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Strong clinical counseling and assessment skills.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
• Experience providing trauma-informed mental health services.
• Understanding of MTSS, special education, and school-based interventions.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
• Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
• Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
• Licensed Psychologist
• Professional School Social Worker License
• School Social Worker License

Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must possess one of the following:

• Oregon licensure as a mental health professional eligible to provide school-based mental health services and Medicaid billing; OR
• Eligibility for Oregon School Social Worker Licensure through TSPC; OR
• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a closely related field and eligibility to obtain required licensure.

Candidates requiring clinical supervision must qualify as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) and meet eligibility requirements for Medicaid billing.
The successful candidate is responsible for maintaining all required licenses, certifications, and professional standards.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience providing therapy in school, community mental health, healthcare, or youth-serving settings.
• Experience with Medicaid billing and documentation.
• Experience serving rural communities.
• Knowledge of Oregon school systems and special education processes.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout school campuses for extended periods.
• Ability to respond effectively during crisis situations.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, virtually, and in writing.
