About the role:

Provides independent pre- and post-sales engineering support for PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and related automation systems. Applies engineering principles and professional judgment to analyze moderately complex applications, establish functional requirements, design and modify control solutions, resolve integration issues, and advise customers and internal partners on implementation and technical alternatives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Independently analyze moderately complex customer applications and establish PLC, HMI, I/O, communications, and control-system functional requirements.
  • Design, develop, document, test, and modify PLC/HMI programs, control logic, communications, and system configurations based on application and user requirements.
  • Evaluate technical alternatives and recommend control architectures, hardware/software configurations, programming approaches, and integration methods.
  • Perform engineering root-cause analysis of complex hardware, software, programming, communications, and system-integration issues and develop corrective solutions.
  • Develop and execute validation plans and functional tests for control-system designs, program modifications, and application solutions.
  • Provide independent engineering guidance for installation, commissioning, integration, optimization, and operation of automation systems.
  • Serve as an engineering escalation resource for PLC Specialist I employees and provide technical review and guidance on application issues.
  • Advise customers, distributors, system integrators, Sales, Application Engineering, Product Management, and R&D on technical requirements, alternatives, risks, and solutions.
  • Analyze recurring field issues and recommend engineering, product, documentation, training, or process improvements.
  • Develop technical specifications, application notes, programming examples, test documentation, and training materials.
  • Exercise independent professional judgment in selecting engineering approaches and determining when product-development, safety, or specialized engineering review is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years minimum years of experience with multiple PLC/HMI or industrial automation platforms and system-integration environments.
  • Working knowledge of VFDs, motion control, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, PROFINET, and related industrial networks.
  • Experience designing, programming, testing, commissioning, or modifying industrial control systems.
  • Experience delivering customer or channel-partner technical training and engineering presentations.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline required.

Knowledge/Training:

  • Professional knowledge of industrial control engineering, PLC/HMI programming, I/O, industrial communications, system integration, and automation architecture.
