Job description

Job Title: Customer Service Representative - Shipping & Receiving
Location: Augusta, ME (On-Site)


Overview

 The Customer Service Representative supports the state laboratory by managing client communications, coordinating water sample pickups across Maine, and assisting with daily laboratory operations. This role combines ontheroad sample collection, customer service, and data entry, ensuring timely processing of water samples and highquality client support.


Key Responsibilities
    • Water Sample Pickup — Travel to designated regions (e.g., Bangor) using a state vehicle to collect water samples from clients at predetermined dropoff locations such as DHHS offices.
      • Occurs approximately 2–3 days per week.
      • Typical travel days may involve up to 6 hours on the road.
    • Customer Service Support — Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming client calls.
      • Provide information on test results, lab directions, and ordering water kits.
      • Complete call sheets and route inquiries to the appropriate department when needed.
    • Data Entry — Enter water sample information and related data into laboratory systems accurately and efficiently.
    • Laboratory Assistance — Support general lab operations as needed, including helping during highvolume periods and learning core workflows to fill operational gaps.
    • Training & Shadowing — Receive handson training directly from the supervisor and shadow existing staff to learn procedures, communication protocols, and lab processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage phone inquiries professionally
  • Comfortable with regular instate travel
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently
  • Willingness to learn laboratory processes and support multiple functions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience handling payments (cash, check, credit card) preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Schedule & Work Environment
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Work Setting: 100% on-site (Augusta, ME)
  • Split between ontheroad sample collection and inlab administrative work
  • Uses a stateissued vehicle for travel
  • On-Call: None
  • Time Off: Available with supervisor approval
