Job description

Earn an extra $2.00 per hour for weekend shifts (shifts Friday night through Monday morning).*
An Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) is part of a two-member team with an EMT, and is responsible for safely driving an ambulance to emergency and scheduled pick-up locations, transporting patients and emergency personnel, assisting in moving patients via stretchers, and otherwise assisting emergency personnel as requested. EVOs go through an extensive in-house training program, which includes the following: EVOC driver course, CPR & first aid, incident command and national incident management systems, hazardous materials, and field & driver orientation.
FT EVO earns $17.60 per hour plus bonuses and benefits.
EVOs work at each of our stations in Schenectady, Albany, Troy, and Glenville New York.
Room to Grow: EVOs in good standing are able to enroll into Mohawk Ambulance Service's EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) courses to promote into an EMT-Basic role with the company. 100% loan forgiveness options are available with a one-year full-time or two-year part-time work commitment. Requirements:
  • Flexible availability on days, nights, and weekends
  • Have and maintain Class "D" New York State Driver License or higher or analogous equivalent from another jurisdiction without record of suspension or revocation in any State. Must be deemed insurable to operate an emergency vehicle.
  • Successful completion of free, in-house training (EVOC/emergency vehicle operator course and BLS/First Aid and CPR)
  • Ability to maintain sustained patient contact for considerable periods of time
  • Ability to participate in long distance transports
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Driver/Fire/EMS experience

*Weekend differential pay is only applicable when the program is active.
