Job description

School Bus Driver

The bus driver position, under the supervision of a manager or supervisor, operates a bus over designated routes transporting school students, or clients to and from school or other locations. In addition, a bus driver may transport students, teachers, staff and/or parents on school sponsored trips. Bus drivers may work with loud and disruptive clients.

Essential functions include driving a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations and schools; transporting school students, teachers, staff and/or parents on school activity trips; performing daily inspections of buses and associated equipment prior to transportation of passengers; maintaining good order and discipline among school students or clients; following company policies regarding student/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, staff, and the public in general; verifying route turn for turn sheets and noting any route changes with written notes; making additional directional or landmark notations on bus route sheets to assist future new or substitute bus drivers; observing and tracking route timing, such as total time en-route; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency; keeping records and submitting reports as required; sweeping, cleaning and refueling buses; reporting all mechanical deficiencies promptly; advising students on safe riding instructions and performing evacuation drills as directed; and all other duties as assigned.

Education, experience and skills required include a clean driving record, certified school bus driver with class B endorsement P-S, and being friendly, out-going, and pleasant.

Physical demands include sitting for long periods and requiring intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions, and working in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Sensory demands require intense concentration.

Mental demands include maintaining order and discipline on the bus while driving in a safe and appropriate manner, and addressing behavior issues and discipline problems.
