Job Description

Engineering - Mechanical 3-6 Yrs. Exp.ย (Special Projectsย -ย Seattle/Tacoma)ย 

KPFF Special Projectsย Groupย isย currently seekingย exceptional individualsย with 3-6ย years of experience to apply for the position of Mechanicalย Engineerย in either our Seattle or Tacoma offices.ย ย Candidatesย who are attracted to our philosophy, team culture, and unique work environment are encouraged toย submitย their cover letter and resume for consideration.ย 

KPFF's Special Projectsย Seattleย and Tacomaย offices areย partย of aย dynamicย 150+ย person group that providesย civil engineering and planning, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and machine design,ย andย project management. We provide these services on a wide range of project typesย throughย all stages of development.ย 

Typical project types include:ย 

  • Moveable vehicle and pedestrian bridges and other heavy moveable structuresย 
  • Doors forย aircraftย hangars and other large buildingsย 
  • Container terminal infrastructure designย 
  • Marina designย 
  • Ports, harbors,ย shipyardsย and other industrial waterfront projectsย 
  • Fluid power designย 
  • Fuel piping systemsย 
  • Bulk material handling systemsย 
  • Rail Locomotive Maintenance Facility Infrastructureย 
  • Fisheries Engineeringย 

Physical demands and work environment:ย 

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.ย 
  • Occasionallyย may beย requiredย to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.ย 
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing indoor/outdoor field observations, which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders and navigating uneven terrain.ย 
Qualifications

Our ideal candidates would have:ย 

  • Bachelorย of Scienceย in Mechanical Engineeringย 
  • EIT isย required.ย 
  • Exposure toย project engineering and project management.ย 
  • Understanding ofย core mechanical engineering concepts,ย including machine design principles, statics, dynamics, kinematics, fluid mechanics, and strength of materials.ย 
  • Familiarity with force analysis including free-body diagrams and shear/bending/moment diagrams.ย 
  • Knowledge of stress analysis, including exposure to finite element analysis (FEA).ย 
  • Familiarity with design of weldments.ย 
  • Familiarity with design / specification of bearings,ย pinsย and other standard machinery components.ย 
  • Familiarity with kinematic and dynamic analysis of machinery.ย 
  • Familiarity with hydraulic power systems.ย 
  • Familiarity with electric motors, electronic drives, and controls.ย 
  • Familiarity with industrial process piping and pumps.ย 
  • Familiarity with Bulk Materials Handling and Storage.ย 
  • Proficiencyย in SolidWorks including parts modeling, assembly creation, and drawing production.ย 
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.ย 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project team members and clients on a variety of projects.ย 
  • Detailย oriented andย desireย for continued learning.ย 
  • Clear communication and writing skills.ย

Compensation:

The total compensation for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected total compensation range for a qualified candidate is $90,000 - $110,000 including performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. During the interview process, we'll provide detailed information and address any questions you may have about the overall compensation package and benefits.
