Job description

Amentum is currently seeking a Logistics Specialist to join our dynamic team in the Winchester VA area. In this position you'll directly support our customers' warehouse operations and logistics life cycle to include shipping and receiving, inventory accountability, storage and distribution.
You will be responsible for the secure receipt, control, handling, storage and movement of customer equipment and supplies. Must hold a valid driver's license and be capable of operating a range of vehicles including box trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.
Work Schedule:
Work is performed Monday - Friday in office. 8 hours per day.
Essential Responsibilities:
Execute logistics and warehousing activities:
  • Operate software programs designed specifically to manage logistical functions, such as procurement, inventory management, and other supply chain planning.
  • Material handling, including loading, unloading, moving, and sorting a variety of items, to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Ensure compliance with physical security guidelines, maintain security of customer information.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
  • Assist with inventory management and reconciliation of inventory discrepancies.
  • Maintain and update inventories in Defense Property Accountability System (DPAS).
  • Use Microsoft Office suite applications to produce reports on logistics activities.
  • Receive incoming shipments and verify accuracy against purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Unload, unpack, and inspect materials for damage or discrepancies.
  • Responsible for the packaging and documentation for all materials. Ensure all items are labeled, stored and packed properly including the safe and efficient use of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) such as pallet jacks and forklifts.
  • Support additional warehouse and logistics tasks as assigned.
  • Transportation activities:
    • Receives local or nationwide trip assignment.
    • Performs safety inspection of vehicle and notes any needed repairs on vehicle condition report.
    • Perform routine vehicle checks ensuring vehicles are prepared for trips.
    • Assists with truck loading as necessary, ensuring that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.
    • Drive truck to designated local or nationwide delivery point(s); may be accompanied by another driver.
    • Assists in identifying items requiring special handling at delivery point.
    • Unloads truck using a variety of material handling equipment.
    • Assists crew with loading backhaul cargo, ensuring that material is loaded in accordance with weight distribution guidelines and limitations.
  • Travel as needed (20-30%).

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
  • Will be required to work in a warehouse where they may be exposed to fumes from vehicles, noise, and dust. Must be able to regularly lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and sustain physical activity throughout the day. Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment. Experience and comfort with a physical job that involves repetitive motions, climbing, stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, pushing, reaching, and pulling. Use of computer terminals is required.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance is required with adjudication within the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses.
  • Basic computer skills and experience using MS- Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Logistics, warehouse, distribution operations or supply chain related experience
  • Ability to operate a range of vehicles, including box trucks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
  • Demonstrated dependability, positive attitude, and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to accurately follow established procedures and directions to locate proper delivery destinations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Security Clearance Required: TS/SCI - This position requires an active DoD TS/SCI security clearance that has been adjudicated in the last 5 years or designated CE and the ability to obtain and maintain
Minimum Education: H.S diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years
Preferred Qualifications: if applicable to your program
  • Class A or B CDL or military equivalent, with 5 years of driving experience.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT Physical
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations on transportation.
  • Thorough knowledge of the safe operation of a range of vehicles and material handling equipment (i.e., cab-over, day cab, and conventional tractors; flatbed, lowboy, car carrier, 53 foot, and wide load trailers within the scope of the commercial Class A driver's license, with endorsements.
