Job description

What does a Transportation Planner do at Swire Coca-Cola?
Manage the load tendering process with contract carriers through the TMS system. Manage carrier relationships, intermediates with shipping and receiving issues (such as dock scheduling or load shifts), and work with the Senior Transportation Manager and Senior Transportation Planner to adjust carrier awards, lane assignments, and to increase capacity as needed in various lanes. Experienced in managing regional freight costs.
Responsibilities:

  • Maintain vendor relationships for win/win partnerships. This includes intervening to ensure timely loading and unloading of carriers, making sure carriers are operating in optimal lanes, and resolving carrier issues such as load shifts or detention
  • Work with Plant personnel and DC personnel to assist with dock scheduling to ensure that demand on the docks does not exceed their capability, particularly during surge periods or when the plant is supporting other production centers
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain Planning on transportation sourcing and availability on an ongoing basis
  • Update the Senior Manager and Senior Transportation Planner on issues of importance such as: carrier constraints (availability), carrier inability to service specific lanes, regional conditions affecting transportation performance (weather/road closures), impending strikes, or other events that will impede delivery performance, so that Leadership can be made aware in advance
  • Control transportation costs by adhering to a routing guide which maximizes service and cost
  • Hold vendors accountable for performance based on existing and evolving metrics
  • Track loads that are prioritized by Supply Chain Planning through Fourkites tracking services and email updates
  • Back up Transportation team members as needed


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (or GED) required and
  • Minimum two years of college, preferred and
  • Emphasis in Transportation, Supply Chain, and/or Logistics preferred
  • Supply Chain Planning Experience preferred and
  • 2+ years' experience in a Logistics environment (Common Carrier Company or 3rd Party Logistics), required and
  • Experience managing Transport routing through an IT based model (TMS) preferred
  • TMS Systems (Oracle, BluJay, others), preferred.
  • Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), (Access preferred).
  • Carrier Management in a 3PL or Shipper Environment
  • Analytical skills to determine driver productivity, best cost scenarios, carrier performance, etc.
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Vendor management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and spoken skills
  • Transportation Management Knowledge- Geography, Regional Carriers, Rate Levels, Tendering loads.
  • Basic knowledge of freight claims processes
